just a quick question! hand held cameras! i was doing bout 40 in a 30 tonite, [which i know was wrong] when dis policeman litraly jumped out from behind a bus shelter waving a hand held gun at me! my Q if it read my speed n i was over the limit, dont the police have to pull me over? hand held guns dont take a pic do they? sumone please stop me worrying,!

as far as i aware they have to pull you over to issue you with a fine. i dont think they take a photo like the fixed point cameras.

First off, yes, they can just catch you speeding without having to pull you over.

Second, the whole "asking for the calibration" document is ages old now, and the chances of you getting caught by one that hasn't been calibrated are slim to none.

You were doing well over the speed limit, so if you get nothing in the post, then consider yourself very lucky. Are you sure it was genuine? I've seen people before pretending to have a speed gun just to scare people...

you get the old people down to countrey lanes with there speed guns, police have started issueing radar guns to the public to catch people out but all they do is right your numberplate down and send it to the police then the police will send you a letter just warning you of the speed limit, i have a feeling that some guns do have hard drive but some dont.

I love scaring the sh!t out of old do gooders, dump and chatter as I go past them if they're the miserable old type :lol:

Seriously though, the way you described the bloke who "jumped out with a grin on his face", I'd be very surprised if it was genuine.

If it was, however, find out his name (it'll be on your ticket) and make a formal complaint against him. Even if nothing comes of it, he'll have it on his record, and might make him think twice about being a c0ck about catching speeders.
