The "tool" is only cheap, and all it is, is a socket with a bit of rubber inside to grip the spark plug. Im sure you could pull them out with something else.

And yeah, a service should help with the car. Oil change, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, sparks and leads - all should help. Get some carb cleaner aswell. If your car's never had some of that sprayed in it's intake then it should help things along!

i remember a few year back when i had a sierra i used some of the redex stuff u put in the carburater and in the holes where the spark plugs go, fook me, the amount of smoke that was pishing out the exhaust when i started it was unbelievable :lol:

even when u drive it still pours out for about 20 minutes, u get some weird looks to i can tell u :shock:

not sure if it did the car any good, but its funny when i think about it now, want so funny at the time :lol:

redex is meant to clean the injectors mate thats why..

and your meant to spray stuff like carb cleaner whilst its running..

should kick out some dirty smoke when its working

Sorry moe but proper redex is to clean the carbon from the engine. Redex injector cleaner is for injectors and what John_d did with proper redex was totally correct. It is bloody good stuff and reduces having to decoke older engines. Sorry Matty but you are also wrong as redex goes no where near you stem seals, if it does then your engine is scrap and worn beyond repair.

It goes no where near the stem seals as they are no where near the inlet tract. They under the valve springs which have around 30mm of cast iron or aluminium and a phosphor bronze valve guide between them. Whilst the engine is running it is causing a continuous vaccuum so therefore the the fuel/additive is drawn into the cylinder. When a stem seal wears the same occurs but when the vaccuum pulls the air/fuel/additive mixture it also draws minute amounts or hot thin engine oil into the cylinder too. When the engine stops the oil is nice and thin and again tiny amounts of oil run down the valve stems and sit on the valves and burn off when the engine starts, hence the puff of blue smoke on start up.
