The LSD is nice to have, especially if you're into drag racing...

The ratios though.. slower acceleration, faster top speed..

Then the 1.6 box has better ratios for you..

The Si comes with an IB5, and yes it is better than the RST (BC/B5) box. Ultimately, as above, putting the RST LSD in the Si's IB5 would be ideal.

I think the Si box would be way too short. Its too short really for the 1.6 so a lot of potential would be lost from the 2.0. I find the S2 RST box has perfect ratios, and the LSD makes things a million times better

i used to run the Si box and now run the S2 lsd box in mine and i have to say i prefer the S2. Yeah ratios are a little longer for getting away but it well worth it when you get to some corners and motorway is much nicer than the Si box reving the nuts just to do 80mph.

Well if you want to get really into it then you are wasting energy with a shorter ratio. Because the gearbox isnt 100% energy efficent, if it is revving more to attain the same speed, then more energy is gunna be wasted as noise/heat etc. But obviously that is gunna be a pretty small % difference between the two boxes, im just waffling lol.

At the end of the day it's all pointless unless we understand what the original poster means by "better". To him, faster acceleration might be 'better', in which case the shorter box is superior. Or perhaps he wants best fuel economy at 80mph, in which case diesel ratios would be superior.
