yeah was a gen ford kit just without the spring. was a local garage that fitted it, they had problems with it tho with the pulleys being bolted in so tight so i still have the old guide pulleys on it *sigh*

When it came back from there the first time the belt was hitting the top cover and was really loose, second time it came back it was tightened up and all this happened. tut!

Unplugged the TPS and went for a drive with it off, not far, just round the block and it made no difference whatsoever, wasn't better, wasn't worse which was rather interesting!

Might try and get hold of another one to see if that makes any difference.

Ok, I'll get it looked at by a garage, I hope your right cos they're not cheap lol.

One quoted me £25 just to look at it haha, well, £25 isn't too bad just for peace of mind.

What were you doing up at 4:35am? =O

dude..

as said its easy.. youll be able to tell straight off if you move the bottom end to TDC as there are timing marks on the head/cam to look at

I'm too scared to take the rocker cover off lol, I don't have anything "metal plate" shaped to put over the cams to see if they're in the right place =(

ah sod it, will have a look after tea, hope the old gasket doesn't mind too much.

taking the rocker cover off is fairly easy, it of a fiddly job tho

do you not have anything small enought to wedge there?

have a read of your haynes manual and see what it says

You could buy a Manual & zetec timing kit for £25 and do it yourself and don't even think of using card as the cams when in the right place are under tension and will chew the card up.

Just removed the rocker cover to have a look and I'm no expert but I don't think the cam position looks right, the grooves in the cams are not flat but diagonal. What do you think guys? Both cams are on that angle.

Depends on whether you have got the right notch on the crank pulley because yours seems to have 2

And looking at that your crank was 1 full turn out. The slots must be perfectly straight when the crank is at TDC on piston 1. You should be able to put a 5 mm flat bar across the 2 cams and it should sit on the head.

TDC is the second notch on the pulley =), I rotated it again just to make sure it was definitely out, I never knew the crank did 2 turns for 1 rotation of the cams at the time. The slots were nowhere near straight but on a diagonal line so it needs doing. If this fixes my super slow problem then I guess I owe you a beer or 2 Mike lol.
