The Story So Far...
my third fiesta, had simular plans with the other two, but as life goes on the past two fiesta's came to an early death, this one was'nt as clean as the previous ones but seen more as a project which will be more fun,
also got a big point to prove with this one

Image

as i'm late starting this project diary i'll just summarise whats been done to date!

the car has gone through various stages from different wheels to different suspension set ups
first was a 40mm drop on gmax shocks and springs

Image

then went to 17's from the last fez
Image
Image

then i went back to 15's for winter
15" rs2000 rims
Image

then the progression to avo coilovers
Image
Image
Image

during the time of having this car its been on the rolling road during various stages of mods

starting from
93.5bhp and 152nm of torque which was a 1.8 on the si ecu :(
119.5bhp and 166nm of torque on 2.0 ecu + maf, rs1800 cams but engine was dieing lol
129bhp and 169nm of torque this being my last result to date
which was 1.8 a newer engine, rs1800 cams, ecu, maf, decat
Image

during the time of having the car,
i've collected many bodyparts ready for my plans

Fiesta turbo front bumper
zetec s rear bumper
smooth boot
new fords drivers side rear quarter

heres a pic to show how i want the bodywork
execpt i'll have different wheels,
different colour etc

**small update**

been fixing little annoying things

- rear heated screen now works
- switch that lets the car know the door is open
- had new pads for the rear drums

not much at the mo, but things which had to be done
been keeping it very clean lately aswell
will update with some pics of parts collected so far aswell next

my new exhaust manifold arrived today

a tubular 4-1 stainless steel manifold
its a ford racing motorsport one from usa

its chrome ceramic coated apparently

ment for the zetec -r engine
but has been adapted for mine

looking forward to putting this on soon if i can, expecting a few more deliveries in the next few days

more deliveries
ford racing motorsport plug leads
Image

also a ford racing volts gauge to keep an eye on the battery with the sounds playing
Image

little update

first working in fords is heavan, priced up loads of bits and found out loads of information generally
plus having a money coming in always helps

a common thing and something thats been a problem with my car for some time
lower arms, i tend to be going through a set every two or three months plus the front tyres
which is ridiculous

this being down to poor design mainly, with bushes always popping out and breaking very easily
obviously does'nt help once the car is lowered aswell lol

so i've invested in some ZOO motorsport lower arms
which are tubular and fully adjustable in castor and camber
so should get full wear out of my tyres in future

Image
my current standard lower arms

new uprated versions fully adjustable
Image

they should arrive next thursday powder coated in a ford blue
with all new bolts etc and all rose jointed parts zinc coated

getting quotes for bodywork at the moment aswell,
so its getting close.

new castor and camber adjustable, tubular lower arms fitted using new bolts etc aswell
new top mounts fitted
coilovers stripped down of surface rust and wax oiled
sorted little bits of rust which were hiding behind the arch liners then wax oiled
also wax oiled the lower arms aswell lol
fitted new disc's and pads aswell

heres some pics showing old and new parts next to eachother
first the top mounts, (just a little worn)
Image

the lower arms

a few more pics of a few things i've got ready for the bodyshop

fiesta turbo front bumper

delocked doors

smoothed boot

well some more news since the lower arms went on,
i changed the link bars on the anti roll bar for new items from fords,
did'nt take a pic as its pretty boring lol

my original plan for brakes was brembo 4 pots,
but after talking with a brake specialist before buying a set for a focus rs,
i was told they would not fit using any size disc under my new choice of wheels,

so a change of plan, but i'm happy with it
escort cosworth front brake set up is the new plan, already sourced it and should be picking it up in the next week or two,

so while i'm there i'll be having braided hoses aswell
and finally vibratechnic gearbox mounts to keep things solid lol

also i have my new wheels in work waiting for me,

just mainly bodywork to sort now and the rest should come together easily

will update with pics when things arrive etc

well good news,
picked up the cossie brakes,
vibratechinc gearbox mounts are coming 2moro
bought the last of the main panels i need, them being :-
two front wings
two sills
passenger rear quarter

all body panels are original ford items so they fit better and easier

the car is booked in the bodyshop for the 1st of next month,
shall be pics through out its time there,

all excited now cant wait

.

still excited about the car going in the bodyshop,
heres a pic of all the spanking new panels i've got stored in work,

went for original ford parts as thier the best fit and finish
Image

also ben diesel took a pic of the fez on the m4,
never had a rolling pic before,
Image

gona be the last pic now untill bodyshop time

fitted the vibratechnic gearbox mounts,
WOW what a huge difference, the car is totally more responsive and quicker
only downside being the car vibrates like mad on idle, but i dont mind that much

only downside is that a spider on the cv joint passenger side has either come off or broken,
so going around roundabouts feels like the car is fighting you is the only way i can describe it,
so kept it off the road until tuesday as i've already ordered a new spider for the shaft,

BAD NEWS
or should i say bad timing, changed the spider in the inner cv joint,
made no difference, after alot of checking we discovered in work that the diff on the passenger side is buggered,
so the drivers side has been doing all the work lol

its a week sat till the car goes in the bodyshop for about a month,
so gona have a ring around in work 2moro to find a cheap gearbox for now,
basically want the car to drive to trax with its new bodywork then i'll take it off the road for proper engine work,
so really not worth getting a real gearbox yet,
.

some catch up pics of things i've mentioned above,

first the adjustable lower arms fitted and wax oiled
Image

the uprated vibratechnic gearbox mounts compared to the old buggered ones
Image
Image

my new diesel box and shafts, only done a genuine 40k
gona give it a clean before it goes in
Image

not sure if i've mentioned it above, but always had a problem shifting gears quickly,
when changing the gearbox mounts i discovered the selecting rod linkages going to the gearbox were badly worn and loose, so cant be helping at all,
so bought a new rod, close up of the linkages all nice new and tight
Image
Image

also got some anti-roll bar bushes to finish the near new front end runnign gear lol
Image.

well might aswell show you some pics of my bodywork,
give you more of an idea why i'm changing most panels

Image
Image
the rear quarter, as u can see terrible repair, looks full of filler and no real shape to it,
rust appearing on the lip of arch,

Image
scabby bits on the bottom of the door and wing

Image
then we come to usual place for fiesta's to rust,
the sill's normally cos this is where the drip rails for the sunroof come out inside the sill,
so always rust, i hope to extend the pipe out of the sill a bit more, so it wont come back

there are more problems like the boot,
but i'll get better pics to show the extent of the rust tommorrow,
its quite bad because of a aftermarket mondeo estate spoiler that was put on and just drilled thru the metal leaving water drip through,
anyway enough about that, will update more tommorrow.

well saturday is fast approaching, when she goes to the bodyshop for a makeover lol
few things need doing before

1. take audio out,
2. take all interior out except the drivers seat/dash
3. put some nasty wheels on which i dont care about, (over spray etc)
4. raise the suspension as i dont think the bodyshop will appreciate it being sooo low lol

already got the audio out, gona take the rear seats out tonight, will have carpets out etc tommorrow,
so will take some bare pics then

some stripped pics as promised, also pics during raising the suspension
Image

small update for a min,
got hold of a spare tyre which i tried on to see if it would fit my new alloys

not going to go into detail about what alloys they are or size tyres etc,
gotta keep some things quiet or quiet ish at least lol

success their stretched but not too bad either, so ordering new ones later tonight
heres a pic to show them fitted,
Image

popping up the bodyshop later aswell, got my camera ready aswell :D

Image

in this pic you can see all the new panels fitted,

Image
heres the zetec s rear bumper on just to get a slight idea,
had to have the rear towing eye taken off for this fit, you can see how much the exhaust is inside the bumper,
this will have to be brought out more

Image
heres the current state of the bonnet, not a full on bad boy as i think they're are bit ott
.

Image
heres the passenger side, was still being finished off but you can see more,
was a small patch on the inner arch with a bit of rust, thats been sorted,
suprisingly enough tho was told how clean and good the actual shell is for a fiesta,
despite the condtion that the outside of it was in, the inside is good and solid

Image
as you can see the rear arch has a gap missing, this was removed as this part is always a pain with big wheels on fiesta's, when i had the car 17's before this was heavily grinded back and was still close,
so now its being done properly its all gone lol

the rear arch is also rolled and folded like on the mk5 fiesta zetec s, so no need for arch trimming

Image
the filler cap kneck had the start of a scab of rust also, so thats been cut out and sorted as you can see in primer,

Image
heres an overall pic of the fez with eddie working on it,

and a few other cars there which show their workmanship, including the custom exhaust they made

Looks like you've spent a fair bit of dollar on it! looks good, i personally think it looks better with the RS1800 alloys than the 17s!

bodyshop update

the smoothed boot trial fit, been rubbed down and checked for imprefections
Image

mmmmmm smooth delocked doors!!
Image

euro style bad boy
Image

my front bumper and splitter
thats going to be done this week, involves alot of cutting, smoothing etc
Image

sunroof and weather strip out ready and inspected for any rust,
but looking real clean fair play to the fez
Image

overall pic of the car, as you can see primer inside the doors, all panels have been properly spot welded in the appropriate places like the window frame, inside the front wings, door shuts etc
Image

spot welds on the wings
Image

this is the other side of the bad boy, as you can see its metal folded properly to give that neat edge etc
Image

other rear arch with cut out for large wheels,
Image

the rear valance is being trimmed up to my finger, will get rid of rust easier lol
also will give more clearance to move my exhaust to suit the new bumper better
this part thats being cut off wont be seen with the bumper on, only really seen on the lower spec fiesta's so does'nt make a difference wether its there or not,
Image

inside of doors prepped, wow the doors feel amazing to open and close compared to before, feels really effortless now
Image

other rear arch with lip rolled back and folded and sealed to help clearance and prevent rust as much as possible, the second pic shows its thin lol
Image
Image

hoping to recieve a few goodies this week, will update when i get them,

also bought a brand new windscreen and seal as mine had a nice chip, so makes sense to change it now while the windows will be out anyway for spraying
.

not sure if i mentioned earlier in the post, but i have a esc cossie brake set up,

anyway not liking the look of plain disc's,
so my old man put some grooves in them for me,
really happy with the result tho,
thanks dad

going to strip the calipers down this weekend, have them shot blast then zinc plated with the disc's

Image.
