copied this from another forum, it speeds up connection

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a brodband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

but whats the reason it takes longer in the first place??

must be a good reason so why would i want to stop it?

dont really know but it works wonders, pages load fast now, before i used to get timed out messages the whole time, now it loads nearly instantly.

Safari as in....Apple Mac safari....Keep it!

As for the firefox hint, sounds like a good tip, but id imagin it just whores up bandwidth...my house mates gonna love this lol ill have a look into it!!

The way i belive it works is in effect if 'spams' the web interface server with numerous request working on the basis that the more sent the more likely you are to get a sucessfull responce.

Where as in HTTP tradintonaly (1) one request could only be sent, in HTTP 1.1 suppoted by most modern browsers multiple requests can be sent without any responce.

The only main drawback would be if Higher values are used a larger delay will be experienced if a connection fails during the process!

if you have just read all that then, no you cant have those 2 mins of your life back, and all i can do is appoliogise....lol
