Go buy a cam kit, it will included,
new belt
2x idlers
tensioner
bolts and spring.
Top dead centre is when piston no1 is at its highest point. The engine rotates clockwise so On the crank pulley that runs your PAS etc you should be able to see on the outer rims of it the are sets of little nik's (markings).
On the sump the is a straight edge pointing out, (downwards towards the front, around 135*)
Use a straight edge on this and rotate the engine round, ignore the first set of markings, you want the second set. Align this with your straight edge. thats TDC. to check it put the ratchet extension in spark hole one as i said above, it shouldnt go in very far at all. compare it to hole 2, this should be at the bottom of its stroke.
Pull out your haynes, there is a little section on finding top dead centre, with pics. Always read it and look at the pics and compare to your engine, it iwll help you see what got to happen.
Then again read through replacing the timing belt, pics help out also.
