I *think* it's something to do with whatever colour they are primered.
If you look, Ry's engine bay is black on a dark blue Mk 4.
Mk 5 Zetec-S bays are black if you have an imperial blue one too.

I guess it's a money saving thing, but I kinda like it cus it frames the engine nicely.

It's not been in a front ender either, came from the factory like that, under the carpet is silver.

i seem to remember ford stopped painting engine bays in car colour at around 1995. mine has bodycoloured bay, just shame the body doesnt match :lol: .
but my mates is a N reg and his engine bay is black.
