A small update on the insurance situation, an some advice needed. Today i received a call from the other blokes insurance, he informed me that the car was indeed a write off. It has been classed as a cat B, which i thought odd! He said the car would have to be scrapped, fair enough i was gunna strip it anyway.

Then came the offer for the settlement, £380 hahahahahahahahaha.
No chance, then the bloke starts telling me i am dreaming if i think it is worth more. Also it is a high mileage car, 69,400miles for an eleven year old car???

More arsey comments then followed, and i was by now well pissed off. I asked him how much i can buy it back for as friend wants the engine for a kit car ( not entirely the truth), no sir you can't have it back, why not, because you can't.

Advice would be good please :o :o

what insurence company are u with if its any thing to do with direct line or a sister company u can buy it back or take stuff of the car as long as uve got some thing to replace it with like alloys swap for steelies etc...

Cat B total loss will mean the cars ID will have to go, but you can take bits off it. There may be some ruling as to what you can take though, but I know you're not allowed the car back. I think you'll struggle to get a decent figure for it as insurers are notoriously tight. :(

Go on autotrader and print off loads of similar spec, mileage and condition Si's and send them off to them.

With mine, an apparant "market value expert" told me mine was worth £500 less than what I had paid for it 2 months before. As soon as I sent all them off, and told them to find a similar spec one for the money they offered, they soon changed their attitude. I sent them a letter explaining all this too, and had a go at the garage that took the car, because they did a bit more damage whilst asessing the damage. After this, my solicitor got involved and they coughed the money up pretty much straight away. Mine however, was a cat C, so I got the car back, and got it for nothing (which was a bit odd, but hey).

Insurance companies will ALWAYS try it on to start with. If they see that you know your stuff, and are not prepared to be taken for a ride, they start playing ball a bit. But think how many people just accept the first offer, its ridiculous.
