Cheers dude!

Nothing happened yet, moved the spare wheels into the garage so not got the car in yet. Need to get the track rubber put on the spare wheels and then stick them outside under cover then get the fezza tucked up for her make over!

It's been a wee while since I updated this so thought I'd best get on with it!

Car is now back in the garage, nice and cosy and warm.

Few pics of some of the progress that's been made:

Image
Started cutting the holes for my aero catches. Not as bad as I thought it would be but makes a bloody mess of the garage lol  will finish it off outside me thinks

Image
Made a panel for my three Stack gauges out of a sheet of 3mm Carbon Fibre. Got it all mounted up now. Just need to add in the Water Temperature sensor when I can get an adaptor for fitting it into a hose in the engine bay.

Image
Mounted my LC-2 Lambda controller in the centre console. Decided to keep the console for a little bit of finesse on track :gheeyyy: and it weighs fuck all anyway :lolz:

Image
And mounted the AFR gauge on my pillar pod that I bought off Terry about 7 million years ago!!

On top of that I have removed the broken front bumper, dummy mounted the catch can, replaced the stock lambda sensor with my wideband one for the LC-2 obvs, measured up front windows to get some Polycarbonate ones cut up, done all the wiring and tidied up wiring for gauges and LC-2 controller.

I've also booked a track day on the 21st May at Knockhill. Its Ford Live so should be a brilliant day, especially if last year is anything to go by. Was actually bloody sunny lol :wth: :wth:

So target it set for having her ready. Got a list of things to do before then... including fitting the cage but that's not 100% essential...but it's a doable list....well apart from possibly the MOT which is due in April but we'll worry about that later lol :lolz: :lolz:

Hopefully get the car out of the garage and the cage trial fitted soon so will get some pics of that

Cheers

Paul

Not a lot been happening lately, but got out for an hour or so last night so put the centre console back together and ran in the wiring for the heated front windscreen. This car doesn't have one but I pulled all the wiring from my old one before it was scrapped so next windscreen replacement will be a heated one! Then I can decide if I rip out the heaters to save weight

Hopefully get her out and trial fit up the cage some night this week before its due to rain at the weekend... need to get some fuel first though as she's run out lol

Cheeky wee update... not done a lot lately but did get out the other week and had a play with the cage.

Here she was in the garage before i took her outside

Image

And here's the rear part of the cage trial fitted in

Image

And then I tried to get the front section in but couldn't get it to line up so I have to cut the dash....now I could have done it in situ but wheres the fun in that? :gheeyyy: :banghead:  so I pulled the dash out and tried fitting it in...

Image

Fits like a glove...so I've chopped off the bits of the dash that clashed and loosely put the dash back in and the front of the cage is back out for now. Just need to get the cage repainted as its shit from sitting outside for over a year  and weld in some foot plates for where the cage will sit.

Apart from that not done an awful lot :chill:

Hopefully get out and get the dash back in properly with all wiring routed and cable tied into place at some point this week/weekend. Took the opportunity to remove the airbag controller and all cabling while the dash was off as well as the N/S speaker wires as they aren't needed lol :wack:

Cheers

Paul

Cheers Guys!

No updates yet as she's still sitting under the cover on the drive.

MOT is due on the 10th so need to decide whether to Tax her and try getting it done this week or wait until the start of May and save a months Tax...decisions decisions lol

Need to seal up the rubber grommet that the wiring comes through from the engine bay on the driers side as it's leaking like a bugger just now! Think I have some Samco repair tape so will try and get that so stick if not will just cover the fucker in Duct tape lol!

Hopefully get some work done this week though, just got some work shit to sort out first but that'll be done by Wednesday so should be all good! And the weathers supposed to get a bit nicer at the end of the week too!

Things to do for MOT:

Space out rear wheels so tyres don't foul on coilovers
Put dash back in properly
Refit indicators
Fit drivers seat
Fit harnesses
Finish aerocatch that I've started...depending how easy that is to finish maybe do other side too
Paint bare metal around aero catch
Refit headlights and front bumper
Weld up rust pastch on N/S/R inner arch
Check for anything else that needs welded/fillered
Buy some petrol lol

Hmmm....maybe May is a better time to plan for lol

Cheers mate

Plan is a road legal track slag...will probably get used very little out with track use other than the odd blast to keep her healthy but will bring her to work as and when I can (i.e. wee one off school or the other half taking her lol).

She's on a low mileage insurance policy so can't use her daily (don't think my ear drums could take that either!)

Going to book the MOT for 1st May tomorrow once the garage is open so will get some updates up between now and then for how I'm getting on.

Morning all,

So, like all good plans I have for the car they changed lol!!
I booked her in for the MOT yesterday and had a good crack at her at the weekend and got the dash back in, seat and harness in, changed the front wheels over so all four matched and were on 195/45r15's as the front's had 50 profiles on. Then went around the sills with a wire brush and a screw driver, found a couple of little holes so patched them with filler or chemical metal and then sprayed both sills with Waxoyl black underseal spray stuff...great stuff!! Don't know why I haven't used it sooner, looks decent from a distance. Did a quick oil change too.
So drove her up yesterday morning as the other half was coming in so she took the wee one to school and dropped her off for the MOT. Called the garage at lunch and she failed on three things:

1) O/S/F Indicator not working - Arse! Forgot to crimp on some spade connectors as the last owner had bodged it to fuck for some reason lol
2) Horn not working - Double arse! Forgot it even had a horn at the weekend and never tried it lol
3) Coil spring not correctly located fall down strut when jacked up - Now, this one got me as its on coilovers. So did a bit of googling and asking about and long story short I'm gonna email Gaz and ask them why this happens as it wasn't slammed to the deck.

Any who, half an hours labour later (2 spades, a fuse and winding the back coilovers up to have the spring compressed when jacked up) and she passed :wth: :wth: :wth:

She also got four advisories, one is wrong, one I'll look at and the other two cracked me up!

Advisory notice item(s)

Brake pipe slightly corroded both rear to flexy (3.6.B.2c)
Passenger seat(s) missing at time of test () - No shit sherlock!!
Standard fitment seat belt missing 4 point harness fitted () - Again, really, you feel the need to tell me this! :lolz:
release bearing noisy - Straight cut box FTW!!

I definitely couldn't drive her daily, the box sounds amazing but it's LOUD!!

Also need to look at oil cooling as the temps were up at 120 degrees both on the way in to work and home, and its snowing up here so not a hot day at all!! Thinking I'll take out the front fogs (they don't work anyway and, well, weight reduction bro!) and run some ducting towards the sump and see if that helps. Don't really want to go as far as an oil cooler right now but may have to if that doesn't have an effect. Not sure how she'll be on track as it won't be a constant run at 70+ will be lots of slower bits but that may make it worse as less airflow.... we'll see next month!

Took a few pics when I was finished on Sunday

Image

So plans now are to get the seat out and weld in the plates for the cage and get that bolted in, line up the door bars and weld them on, then take it out again and paint it and the plates. Then get that bolted in properly.
Then need to make a wee mount for my catch can as Adam will attest to the fact that my engine likes throwing its oil out of the rocker cover when on track...May have a look into possible reasons for that over the next few weeks and see if there's an easy fix. Want to get a Will Pedley breather again but no funds right now so will just have to run catch can and take spare oil lol

Other than that, she'll then be ready for the track day on the 21st....well apart from needing insurance and tax before then buts thats just a couple of phone calls and opening my wallet lol

Cheers

Paul

Well, I spent last week working on the car. The other halfs Dad came round and gave me a hand and we managed to get the following ticked off the list:

Cage plates welded in
Cage welded/bolted on
Door bars in
Seats and harnesses back in
Rear spacers fitted
Coilovers adjusted to what looks like a sensible height
Track tyres fitted on spare wheels and put on
GoPro mounted on roof inside
Glove box modified so it opens past the cage
Oil catch can plumbed in
Holes drilled in front bumper to aid cooling

Basically got it in a track ready state  which is a bloody good thing seeing at I was at Knockhill yesterday for Ford Live :D

Car ran good all day even though it was tipping it down for 3 out of the 5 sessions we did. Has highlighted a few issues I need to sort

Track tyres are scrubbing on the arches so need to trim/roll the arches out to sort that. That and adjust to coilovers a bit stiffer as had quite a bit or roll.
Oil temperatures.....need to get an oil cooler...the temps were up at 140 degrees!! And maybe higher as the gauge only goes to 140 lol
Need to get some track compund pads too as lost the brakes at one point as I was leaving it quite late :lolz:

Apart from that, the car was epic! Really enjoyed Knockhill, much tighter twistier circuit than Silverstone and much better suited to the car and gearbox!
Got a few videos from the GoPro that I'm editing and will get up on YouTube at some point so will link in here. Will also get some pics of the work to the car too as it was dark by the time we finished each night so never actually got any decent ones lol :banghead:

Onwards and upwards 8-)

Paul

First things first, apologies for no videos yet. Not had a chance to get on the PC at home to edit and upload them :banghead: :blahblah: but I do have some pics so they will have to do lol.

So, as I said it was Ford Live @ Knockhill the other weekend and that was the target for the car being ready. Glad to say I got it ready for it and drove her there, 5 sessions on track and home again with no real issues.
Taken a few pics so will let them do the talking

Here she is sitting on the drive. Can see the cooling holes I've drilled in the bumper and popped a fog out. Not sure it made that much difference so need an oil cooler in there.
Image

Cage shot from the back. Cage needs tidied up and its been scratched to buggery getting it in. Will probably take the strut brace off and paint it black too.
Image

Can't quite see my handy work with the welder here (probably a good thing lol) will try and get better shots of the plates I've put in for the feet.
Image

Door bars still need painted, never got round to that, but they just bolt in so that's easy enough to do! They only just clear the door handles, which was by pure luck rather than any measurements :teehheee:
Image

Next three show bits of the dash and glovebox I had to cut out to get the cage in. Might cover up the dah holes with something but probably won't lol. Glovebox is going to be housing the PATS box, Lambda serial lead and Megasquirt ECU so need to have access to it
Image

Image

Image

This is the damage caused by the front arches scrubbing  so need to get that sorted before her next outing.
Image

And found a cheeky photo on Pussbook which is now printed on A4 photo paper and up in the garage lol :chill: :D
Image

Nothing else has happened since then, she's full of bags of grass to go to the dump just now and I'm away to SORN her from tomorrow as she'll not get used much until she's all sorted. Theres a couple of patches of oil under the engine that you can just see in the first pic so need to investigate that :banghead:

Cheers

Paul

Another year has passed and another Ford Live at Knockhill has been had.

Was a last minute decision to take the car so quickly did some mods.
Raised the coilovers and turned up the damping a bit to stop the wheel scrubbing. Also rolled the lip on the arches to help. Turns out it wasn't enough as had to do a few more lifts of the coilovers throughout the day but the scrubbing was significantly less. Need to now get a pair of new wings due to rust and flare them out properly.

Bought an oil filter relocation and cooler kit off eBay so got that installed to keep the oil temps down. Fitted and worked a treat!

Popped out the other fog light and removed both wheel arch liners, removed some weight from the boot (wiper and motor etc) and then trailered her to and from Knockhill.
Was a great day, track sessions were a bit stop start due to flags and breakdowns/people going off but was more on it this year.

Did 4 sessions in all but only got videos from 3 of them.

and just for completeness heres the vid from last years one:

Will update with pics of the oil cooler etc
