lucky you have an angle grinder, i had to do a front end with nothing but a hammer and chissel, and trust me you can feel it after :P

Its my 2.0 16v beast, but it was just slowly falling apart and pissing me off, then the clutch went after only 4000 miles :o :lol:

So i just went out one morning and thought, weres the drill, next minute ive got two old rotten wings on the drive, shocks out and cleaned and painted, all the carriers, gearbox cradle and what not all jetwashed, all the car jetwashed in the bay and underneath, stripped everything off it.

Today i removed the lower valance, as these are only 12.00 and mine had a couple of large holes in it, friggin spotwelds are a nightmare and my 9.99 tesco value drill kept going flat after id done about 3 or 4 spot welds so got pissed off and just went off my head with the grinder.

I then set about the rust on the rear, it started out as this:

Jumped straight on the orange bits with the grinder and just got a shower of white dust, it seems the metal is sandwiched inbetween some white stuff which when you grind it it gets hot melts and flicks and sticks to my hands :x on the front its like bodyfiller, except its white and doesnt smell like filler? The metal is sandwiched in between and rots like a sod as a result.

So i began grinding, and grinding praying for shiny metal.

25 minutes later my prayers where answered as the whole rear quarter end just collapsed at my feet..

So now i need to get the wheels off the back tommorow and jetwash and scrub all the arches and paint them and get rid of all the rust then go down the scrapyard and cut the rear piece of mine thats missing from a decent shell and weld it onto mine.

I need to weld wings on, front valance and that bit on the rear quarter, how much will it cost to hire a welder for 2 or 3 days? a gasless mig or something ?

Todays work..

Align wing, bolt it as standard on the inside, drill holes either end, 3 in total, 2 on the slam panel and one on the inner wing at the top.

Just used a few bolts i had kicking around, will buy some proper bolts when it comes to fitting them for good, need to remove them, de rust the inner wings, zinc prime them and paint them over, then zinc prime the inside of the new wings and trim a little off the lip to prevent alloys scrubbing in future.

Still need to fabricate a bracket of some sort to screw it underneath at the sill end, and on the front end where it meets the front panel.

and one of the headlight and indicator fitted :

Largeish gap between headlight and indicator is due to the wing not being secured at the front panel.

Need to source a lower front valance before i can do this.

These wings are from a company called Sel Imperial and they are a slightly thicker grade material than the standard ford items, i found this out earlier, also ive only got like 5 bolts holding the wing on in total and the wing was solid it didnt move a millimetre i almost shook the car off the axle stands testing it..

Can't see what the problem would be, they are fully or will be fully secure with no sharp edges? Good one though, ill ask when i pick some bits up.

Putting the cat back on at the moment as a hope for better mpg, 150 miles to 30 quid takes the piss.. :cry:

Sat in the garden with my brake disc/caliper carriers earlier and angle grinded 11 years of rust and caked on brake dust of them.

Tommorow ill probably paint the inner wings and sort all the surface rust and give it a nice couple of licks of hammerite before fitting the washer bottle back on the left side, just all money which i don't have pisses me off. :rolleyes:
