What Oil does everyone run?
I'm running 5w-30 fully synthetic on my 2.0 silver top Si. Is that good enough for it? It does run hot so I was worried about high temp protection. And also I'm running a Ram Air foam cam cover filter, could I be loosing oil vapour from that at all where its running hot and vented.
Thanks!

Admins please relocate as I know this isn't to do with cars lol.

i'd say semi synthetic - but it shouldn't really affect it running hot - like danny says - how hot is it?

I'm quite interested in this post and shall be watching to see everyones thoughts.

I current;y run Millers 5W-40 Nano tech as I thought I had cooked my Fully Synthetic 5W-30 on a spirited blast up the road one day before my pressure relief valve went.
I was seeing oil temps of 110 - 115 that day, not sure what Halford Fully Synth 5W-30 is good to so went Millers.

I'm tempted to change back to 5W-30 Fully Synth if it can take the temps of 110 or so as I regularly see that if I'm giving it a good pasting back up the dual carriageway as I do almost every other weekend.

I wouldn't say 110-115deg is excessive, silvertops seem to like high rather than low oil temp, I run 3-30 fully synthetic and oil temps regularly in region of 130deg with no problems before fitting the oil cooler, still can be in the region on 110-120 on a hot trackday, although can't remember even looking at the gauge on last one!

Im using 5w-30 fully synthetic by Comma. Well it's running on the O on the norm, does rise when stood still and fan kicks in fine etc. it's sipping oil and was just wondering could oil vapour escape if its running that hot through a filter on the rocker cover? The 2.0 runs a lot hotter than my 1.6 before conversion.

That temp is fine. If you have a filter on the rocker cover crankcase breather, then yes it will leak through that. You need to either put it into the air filter or into a catch can

Okay mate thanks. That's one less thing to worry about as its not long been done and its loosing oil. Anyone recommend a good 5w-30 oil?
