One of the guys at work is selling a mint ST150 2008 with 40000 miles on it for £4k.

Not as good on fuel as a diesel but put the extra 1k on fuel and your sorted!!

cheers lou. gorgeous cars there and i hadnt actually thought about looking at skodas but i will now, however the mileage is a little too high. Yearly i'll be doing almost 30,000 miles so i'm looking for something up to 40,000.

Still bot sure why you wouldn't consider a cheap polo 6n2? Or similar? Then spend the rest on maintenance. Vw reliability and ive heard they are a good mpg and reliable motor

We went to blackpool and back withthe missis sister, us in the ST170 and them in a 1.1 (smallest engine in them) C3 and mine was same economy on the motorway. Iv always said small engined cars have to work alot harder on the motorway, admittedly you could probably get decent mpg crusing at 60mph but like anyone on here will do that.

My 172 did 45mpg on the motorway.

I'd personally go for a new fiesta 1.0 ecoboost with the 100bhp.

Easy to afford. Nice to drive and you get a few gadgets in there. Plus on Abbie's we got 53mpg on a combined drive down to Hastings and around the town then home. And Abbie was doing easily 90 down the motorway lol. Plus free road tax and no MOTs for the first three years (like any new car)

My budgets only 5,000 so i doubt i'd be able to afford a new fiesta.

I've looked chris and they look brilliant. I will hopefully going to view some as well.

Found a c2 vts Louis, looks spot on. So i'll hopefully be able to view that. Agree on the c4 now. was loving the look on the vtr's but wheel size would be a killer on tyres and insurance bums me on them.

But in terms of insurance, i've found that an 08 1.5dci renault clio is by far the cheapest for me to insure. So ill be viewing them too.

If i find a car with a years mot and tax, cheap insurance, fairly cheap in price and a good service history ill be going for it, obviously. But ill keep you lot posted on what i find.

For your needs £5k is more than enough to give you a wide choice, id be trying to stick to the 2k - 3k mark so your not losing much when your done with it. Although with that budget id buy a mondeo st tdci or even a 2006 focus st (not economical though lol). Just make sure the car isnt too good because I reckon youll forget about the fez lol.

agreed louis lol. The one thing i have to remember is it's a work car for work, that is it. My toy is the fez and always will be. Found a couple of skoda fabia vrs' so i'll hopefully be going to view one on wednesday. The other i found is perfect, low mileage, recent cambelt and clutch, full service history for just under £5,000. It has a deposit down but if it falls through they will be in touch.

I looked at mondeo st's but i think the insurance would kill me. albeit i havent checked but i imagine it will.

I thought 5,000 would be more than enough but its hard finding a relatively new car that will be comfortable enough to spend over 2 hours per day in travelling, has a full service history, is low on mileage, and has a lengthy mot and tax. Guess ill just keep on looking!
