Gents,

Car Lease scheme with Bentley is a no go. They have a 40 mile limit per day (I'll be travelling just over 50 each way). Anything over and your charged 15p then 50p over 10,000 miles. With Insurance on top and the price of the lease it's not worth my while.

So I am looking at getting a car of the Diesel variety. Obviously to keep mpg to the maximum. So i need you guys to feed me with what information you have on any cars that will be cheap to run, reliable and cheap on insurance. I primarily want a ford but i will suffice for something else.

Car finance is another option. I know some manufacturers do a finance package of a lump sum per month which includes everything, All i have to do is top it up with fuel.

So fire away chaps.

Yeah budget would be a good start.

To kick start I would say vw diesel of some sort, the vw caddy atwork has the 104ps engine in it and althoughit doesnt sound a lot of power it delivers everything its got in a huge lump of torque, iv beat loads of big engined cars at the lights lol. Mpg is fantastic, dont know the mpg figure but a day of hammering it and the needle barely moves.

Borrow a few grand from aforementioned family member, buy a push bike and use the car money to buy a spanky Zetec Turbo for the Fez and get it on the road before family member notices

My Mrs has a 2.0 tdi audi a3 which easily returns 65 mpg on a run and stays in the mid 50s in town. Its better than my dads 1.6 diesel ford cmax which stuggles to get over 51mpg. The 2.0 has more power and torque than the 1.9 and returns the same mpg.

What sort of budget will you have Ben?

Does it have to be a diesel? My daily is a 900cc 3 cylinder petrol Vw and it's doing 63 mpg

Thanks for everyones input people. Looks like it will be a car on finance now. I want warrantys etc included. Beenlooking at a few cars from 99 a month, no tax over 5 years. They include suzuki alto (which doesnt look great but has 74 mpg) a chevrolet something and a polo but thats an 09 plate. What are peoples thoughts?
