Right, got a wee bit done over the past few days.

Had a look at the drivers side wing as it was rusty above the welded plate that was put on. I could probably filler it but I think i'll just get a new wing when funds allow as its a bit gash generally so just painted the worst of it with Hammerite for now.

Was having trouble with my lights not working properly again, its an earthing issue related to the current plugs that go onto the bulbs so took them off and gave all contacts a good clean and now are working.

Got my new heatshield so thats in and the water rail looks better on that rather than a cable tie holding it in :)

Got new door hinges and started cleaning up the drivers side, pretty sure my bottom hinge is broken as it moves a lot! So need to strip the door down (just to make it lighter) and then get the bloody thing off! Will give that a go this weekend if the weather is good
If weather isn't so great, will probably do the rear cylinders and fully bleed the rears properly!

Started re-trimming the headlining the other night, but doing it on the garage floor is not the best so will need to get a wall paper pasting table and give it another go.

As for the Red key it turns out I was just being a complete biff and it does work fine, so I have now programmed the remote key to start the car. Just need to wire up the remote module and get it in place.

Ordered new Genuine Ford lower arms/bolts along with snap rings and circlips for gearbox rebuild.

Think that covers all that I've done so list is now as follows:

Change rear cylinders and install braided lines
Tidy up near side sill and paint
Now that I've found my filler tidy up o/s/r arch
Get new exhaust heatshield so water rail is not held on with cable ties - Done
Check height of all coilovers and set evenly
Rebuild Gearbox
Change gearbox
Rertrim roof lining
Refit interior panels that I've taken off
Change battery - Done
Get new cable from battery to starter - Done
Check n/s seat mounting and fix if needed
Wax oil floor
Fit new recaro front seat (details to follow once it arrives :thumbs up: ) - Not happening :(
Install remote central locking
Speak to ford as to why my red key won't program anything!?!?! - Sorted
Tidy up gauges in centre console
Delock or fix lock on boot - In Progress
Get new wheel nuts
Strtip down and re grease door hinges - In Progress
Get floor mats
Change oil maybe, not sure yet...
Fit Puma white dials
Remove plastic side strips and glue
Completely debadge boot
Add variable intermittent wipers stalks
Install Bluetooth phone kit
Check why fog lights aren't working/get proper wiring loom for fog lights.

Well, went out tonight and had a look at a few things.

1) Drivers seat, pulled it out and stripped it down as much as I dared. Gave it a good clean and rebuilt. Went for a spin and it feels a bit better but time will tell. Not sure if just having the rail re-seated has made the difference?!?

2) Headlights, O/S plug is the problem so will get a couple of new ones and solder in a length of cable.

3) Fog lights, relay wasnt seated properly so removed and re-seated and the O/S fired into life. Looks like the N/S bulb has gone so need to get the little fucker out some time... how can one rusted screw be so difficult to get out?!?!

4) Took some bloody pictures :)

Welded Seat bracket done for MOT

Image

O/S Sill Welding - Not the prettiest but had to keep cutting back to find decent metal so will get a new sill at some point...maybe :)
Image

Shows where the O/S/F wing was welded back on at the bottom. Can see the hole I made when buffing back the rust. Again will get new win at some point
The white showing is where I used IPA to clean the rusted area before painting, just need to give it a rough scrub to clean it off.

Shows my nice and shiny hinges ready to be pulled off and replaced

Found this stuffed in the roof when i took the headlining off. Looks like the original pick list for the car :D

Oh! Pictures!

I was beginning to think the car didn't exist and you were just making out you were doing lots of hard work.

Cheers Chris, sometimes I wish the bloody thing didn't exist!! LOL!

No, she's very much real and enjoys ripping bits of my knuckles off :)

Oh, just remembered something else to fix. the oil pressure gauge connectionon the block is dripping so need to remove that and get some PTFE on it and stop it leaking all over everything!

Also had a ponder last night about one really annoying thing that the car does intermittently.
If you leave the car unlocked then eventually the alarm starts chirping in a random sequence along with the PATS light lit up. To stop it you have to wait until it stops chirping and the PATS light goes out then start the car and switch off and lock the door.

When I went out last night to get those pictures I was going to run the diagnostics on the alarm system using the bonnet switch (press 8 times in 10 seconds) which got me thinking, I think the alarm is going into diagnotics modes due to a dodgy connection on a switch simulating it being pushed 8 times quickly as some times the chirps are done in really quick succesion which would tie in with a switch being activated during the test.

Has anyone ever had this happen?

Think I will strip each lock down and check the connections for each switch and get some spares next time I'm at the scrappy. Looks like there is one on each door (or is it just the front doors?!?! need to check) one on the boot and the one under the bonnet.
The switches on the doors are the ones on the lock and not the ones which fire on the interior light according to the images on MicroCat. So will look at the one in the drivers door this weekend if I can get something to take the hinges out when I'm stripping that down anyway.
Have ordered a lock repair kit for the boot so will check that one when I change that and will check the bonnet one maybe tonight or tomorrow so hopefully that'll only leave one switch (or three if the rear doors have them too!).

Anyway, better go and do some work for a bit :)

Well, the weather was ace at the weekend so took a trip to the scrappy Sunday morning and came away with a new switch for the bonnet and an auto down relay off a mk3 mondeo.

Got home and set about stripping the door down (door cards off, seals off, glass out and mirror off) and then had a go at the hinges with my homemade tool. It lasted about 3 seconds and bent the prongs on it!! Arse!

Pic of door stripped down

Image

So gave up on that, ordered a proper one off the net and then pondered what to do next. My speaker had been vibrating a bit so had a looksie while I was there

Image

That explains that then, so threw these in that I had "lying around" honest darling :)

Image

Did the other side too and cleaned up behind the door cards and now she sounds peachy with some bass back :)

Going to get out tonight and see what other mayhem I can cause!

Ben,

I know, not sure what has come over me :wth:
Hope your sitting down though as here are some more

Went to my (not so) local Ford dealer and picked up a box of stuff which mostly had this in it

Image

Genuine Lower arms plus bolts along with new snap rings and circlips for the driveshafts and gearbox

Image

Now I thought the Ford arms were rounded and enclosed but they aren't, which got me thinking...
Image

These are screaming to be made adjustable as the ball joints are on an easily accesible flat plate which would only need a small grind to allow the ball joint to come in board further ...
Image

But I'm not sure I have the balls to do this to a brand spanky new pair of arms.
Question: If you are making adjustables, how much travel do you need to compensate for the camber? 2mm, 5mm, 10mm????

Anyway, got into work today to a couple of packages with these in it

New filter for the screen wash bottle neck along with new clips for the plastic bits that go between the front seats and the sills
Image

And the proper tool for getting those fucking door pins out!!
Image

Its a chunky fucker, thats for sure :) Should make light work of getting at least one bit of the pin out, not sure how I'll get the other three bits that its probably broken into out yet... :hmm:

Was also having a look at wiring in my Mk5 Puma Dials and Escort Mk 5 Intermittent wiper stalks.
Will put up a guide once I have bottomed out the Wiper stalks as I know a few folk have asked over time and there doesn't appear to be a guide to adding the variable intermittent stalks.

And I put my Vibe 6x9's in last night too. Need to get an MDF shelf as mines is a mess. Will probably just buy some MDF and make my own unless anyone knows of a cheap supplier?

Right, better get back to work

Spent a couple of hours on the car tonight looking in detail at the variable intermittent wiped mod.
I've modified my stalks and re fitted them so just need to run a wire to the fuse box and install the correct relay and it'll be done. Have taken a heap of pictures so will write up a full guide once complete.

Other than that I buff fed back some of the rust on the boot lid at the weekend and painted them so it doesn't look so obvious from a distance.

Planning on trying to get the relay tomorrow after work so hopefully will be updated with guide by next week.

Paul
