Reliable. That is a word you simply cannot use with this car in the slightest I'm afraid. It has not been a daily driver, it has not been driven hard either, it wasn't even set up properly when it was done which is honestly a joke in itself.

I'm surprised the pistons haven't melted yet, but saying that, it was hardly driven, and it was probably never driven hard either.

Once you've covered say 10k and if nothing major apart from servicing items go wrong, then you can say it's reliable :)

well it's covered 5,000 miles absolutely fine so far with me :hmm: :? :nerd:

I agree it was weird it was never rolling roaded. But it was checked/tuned according to jono and history each year at SVM.

Once full KMS is fitted i'm sure it will be running to it's optimum :)

it's as happy pottering to the shops as it is going flat out  it's smooth to drive - no lumpy cam or undriveable turbo lag

it hasn't been a daily car but it has covered 26,500 (nearly 27,000) miles since the conversion was done. which is alot with no major issues seeing as most 2.0's on here have had issues (yours included) with gearboxes/mounts/general breakdowns. (minus terry's old one :lolz: )

It has never once failed to start on me

Seeing as everyone was excited about the car at first and what Jono had done to it - "A legend" - i'm surprised at the stick

well it's an irrelevant argument saying my car is unreliable as it's not a daily driver - it is my only car and i commute to work which isn't the cars problem ;)

It was hardly broken/bodged when i got it - it ran fine. I'm also sure SVM are quite good at tuning cars seeing their latest efforts :hsugh:

Adam's FRST is never a full daily driver all year round
Same with Terry's Cossie
Alex's Cossie
Dave's Foucs RS is only a Apr-Oct Daily also

ETC.

Any modified car has the potential to be unreliable ----> insert silver ZS here <---- but for a heavily modified 1.6 it is doing alright

Ooft. Theres the age old ZS ;)

Rather protective when it comes back to you eh :P

If they were that good you wouldn't have to have spent on fuelling. I imagine if you'd done 5k without getting it checked it would have gone bang by now with the way you would drive it.

All im saying is first the fuelling.. then the turbo.. you need management, it might work, but it still going to need cash thrown at it constantly to keep it working.

Whats the latest plan for the turbo?

i used yours as it was a good example of a modified car causing aggro - which you cannot deny.

I'm not being protective - if it broke down every 5 mins then fine  - but it hasn't -

it doesn't need new management at all - i could leave it as it is - but i'd rather have full kms so it's all one.

You can say that about any car - needing money thrown at it - any car that is 18 years old will need maintaining - it will not make it unreliable.

If i'd spent the original money of course i'd of have got it RR'd and seen what was what - but it was jono's money and he had the conversion done.

Latest plan with turbo - seeing as a few people think it is a breather problem - is to take all the hoses off next friday with Mr cousins - and see what is what. As it still boosts fine - does not chuck any blue smoke out - and goes bloody well

lets just point out a few things here A) why would the pistons melt ? they are forged and its running 10psi ? standard pistons can take 22psi so the forged ones are hardly likely to melt B) this has proved to be more reliable than a lot of cars. 12yrs without a rebuild. terry's cossie isn't his daily and has had 3 rebuilds in 5yrs (correct me if i'm wrong) you cant say if a car cant do 10000 miles having only service items go wrong its unreliable. so if a throttle cable snaps, gear linkage comes off, alternator belt snaps, exhaust rubber snaps that makes a car unreliable ? no  that turbo on 'lacks car hasn't been refurbed or anything since it was put on 12yrs ago and that's pretty good and lets be honest it aint gonna last forever. so lets end this whole thing by saying meilacks car is not unreliable its just a boosted ford that will always have to have money chucked at it because its inevitable . if you have the attitude that you can go buy any car and not throw money at it you are a bellend and if you have the attitude that you can by an old modified/boosted ford and it be perfect and never go wrong for the whole duration of ownership then you shouldn't be allowed to own a modified ford

The reason I say I'm surprised the pistons haven't melted is because when you chuck too much or too little fuel in an engine, these things can happen :)

Nearly every picture of this car is of it in the same place and the picture is taken at nearly the exact same angle

I reckon you should spray the centres the same colour as the wheels!
