The concept of this design is quite clever, and the technology there is pretty awesome too.

However, I saw this on the road the other day and was really confused as to what the headlights on the car in front where doing. It wasn't on a bmw, it was on a Chrysler 300 Hemi estate thing, you know the car.

What the headlights where doing where essentially going from high to low automatically when there was a car, or bright enough street light pretty much. Even with no cars around a streetlight was setting it off. It looked broken, as if the ballast box for the HID's was on the way out or something and it kept loosing half its power.

But seeing this puts that to bed and I realise what it was for.

Headlight technology is fast progressing. Think about the safety features there are now, a lot of cars dim one headlight so you can see the indicator, a lot put a fog light on to show you around the corner and also give some warning to other drivers of the direction they are going.

Soon we will have lasers shooting out pew pew pew.

The fog light around the corner thing is quite common now. I don't think many german cars have gone that way luckily. Next car I see that does it, I will make a note of what it is so you can spot it. I see it all the time round here at night.

The auto braking car Volvo introduced is actually, in my opinion, really quite good, if it worked lol.

There must have been something wrong with it to make it plow itself into a little cube, I didn't read much into it afterwards so who knows. But, mercs have been doing it for a while now too, and a lot of modern trucks have it too. The trucks version of it is incredible. There's various volvo truck videos where there is a truck bombing it towards a slowing car and the auto brakes are applied and it comes to a halt pretty quick. Whether it's carrying a load or not I don't know, and that would make a difference to stopping distance, but still, it's nice to know it's there because I'm sure everyone is aware how easy it can be to nod off for a few seconds after a long day.

Oh me too, that's the scariest part about it.

All well and good other than two points:

1) How about when it goes wrong (as it will as it is electronic, and all electronics pack up at some point!)

2) There is no consideration of pedestrians on the pavements - you end up blind when a car doesnt dip on a dark road if you are walking towards it, but with this technology, full beam will always be shining on the pavements!

Not for me all this modern shit. all nice ideas but really do we need it? I think people will rely on all the aids and assistance in cars these days too much!

New technology is clever but. WILL go wrong - WILL cost a fortune to fix

the foglight coming on when turning is on most mercs now, seen it on grad puntos and also some kias. The episode of top gear where hammond and may join scootermad for one night driving drunk peoples cars home, may drives an A class and that does the fog light turning. When i first saw the episode i thought the fogs were buggered lol

Clever technology, but as stated above what happens when it all goes wrong. Just yet another modern car thing that stops us fixing our own cars and having to book them in to garages
