Thanks all :)

Crank pulley replaced, clutch master cylinder fitted and bled, oil changed alongside a smaller filter fitted (tiny bit more oil pressure as a bonus)

Couldn't fit the thermostatic sandwich plate as it was too tight, so going to have another go another time, though the oil cooler is fitted and in place, if a little bodged.

On a side note - I think I've come to terms with the fact that I won't be bothering with getting the dents removed, engine bay cleaned up, under carriage rust and all the scuffs and scratches sorted - it will never be a show condition car, but it will always be something that's a little different, mechanically able and have a bit of poke.

So next thing is the pre-dyno inspection which includes a compression test, timing check, valve clearances, water system pressurised and checked for leaks and more besides. Will update once that's done with the path it's going to go down, results depending...

What oil temps are you getting to warrant an oil cooler Ry ?

On track my temps go past the needle (300f) and my oil is only rated to deal with 150c peak temps. (uprated to 10w50 from 10w40 so as high as I'm willing to go on a car that spends a lot of its week never getting to full operating temp)

The crux of the cooling issue is going down to a half-size radiator, installing a turbo that is water and oil cooled and having a beaming tubular manifold sitting a few inches away from the radiator makes for a massive increase in water, oil and under-bonnet temps in general - Not once did my tuner at the time discuss these important issues with me  Great tuner, great craftsmanship, and great business sense in the respect that they didn't sell the cooling modifications needed so they skipped that page of the book with me.

But that's why I'm jumping ship to a more respected and apparently methodical tuner.

Fair play.

Ive just seen so many people fit an oil cooler to a car which they have no idea what temps it gets to. And to add to that, one without a stat, So the chances are that they are massively overcooling their oil considering they never go near track. At least you are following a sensible method rather than just "buy it, it will make my car fast ,. blud" methodology. LOL

I think that's the worst crime. Oil cooler is one thing but not running a thermostat on a road car - JUST NO.

Once the oil cooler is fitted, it's then a case of getting the water gauge hooked up and reading my real temps, then from there I will know how hot everything is running on the water side. Under no illusions that a bit of water wetter is all I need, but I suspect it will be worse than that. So a better custom made ally radiator will be in order, a heat shield between the radiator and the turbo/manifold and if that's not enough to bring things down when making progress, look at doing something more far fetched like taking the turbo water cooling off the block and giving it its own radiator or something silly :wack:

Obviously its a slightly different situation but ive never seen oil temps above 105c and that was after alot of high speed runs and constant flat out B road driving. Never been on track to see what its like but will be more. Yet, i have been asked why i dont have one. People just dont seem to grasp the concept.

I've never had my car above 240f on the road, it literally is only on track when you're flat out, after a few minutes shit gets hot - Opening the engine bay in Winter is like an oven door opening.

Hmm so basically Woodsy I need to find the water line fitments for my td05 and then decide if I need a totally separate system or if it's a system designed to pass from the turbo to the cooler to the block, I think the latter makes more sense.

I can see the front end of my car looking a bit more Bozozuku by the end of this year with coolers here, there and everywhere

The turbo coolers used on cossies cool the water coming from the turbo return to the headertank.

I once ran on before turbo, so the water entering the turbo was cooled. I saw little effect on the over all temp of the coolant, but i did see quite a drop in egt

That's partly why I need a tune up. Running slightly retarded ignition as when my dizzy died, I replaced it with another unit, but even by using a very exact position for the new one, the base timing polarity was interesting, but more worrying , so I dialled it up slightly retarded to play it safe as I had no idea on what was set on the dyno, so EGT is running higher because of that. I'm replacing my backbox that has a Z bend design with a straight through section to increase exhaust flow/exit which one "tuner" explained briefly over the phone would decrease my EGT's as well which gives more tuning room, but I've not read up on that and can't state that as truth etc.

Will update with what I find for turbo cooling. Sick of reading up on performance parts at the minute.

Possibly the lessening of back pressure with the straight pipe, that would cause a drop in EGT, but all depends on how much backpressure it reduces.

Dont suppose you know your EGTs do you?

I dont use one at all any more. My system seems capable and never gets to hot, which is unusual for a cossie lol

i had to remove my turbo cooler as it was leaking, i have seen a rise in water temps of 1-2 degree's on normal driving

cant say ive noticed or remember what the temps were after a hard run

I don't know what my EGT's are just yet, Alex. I will do shortly though.

Turbo radiator seems to be a good plan - I'm going to fit my water gauge first, check my temps, then install my oil cooler, then if they are not low enough on the road, stick in a new, better rad and some water wetter and then go down the turbo radiator route.

So I popped over to see Will @ RDT on Saturday for a pre-dyno inspection and to pick up my S300 v2 that he supplied and socketed for me. Then decided to do a baseline dyno run as well so we have something to compare to when it goes back for a retune on Hondata and to make sure there were no serious issues in the meantime...

What can I say about Will and the RDT business setup? Fantastic service and great value for money. After a chat he went through various checks on the Integra including a pin-hole style camera to view the condition of the bores which did show some minor detonation has occurred since the turbo has been installed. Compression test was ran just before this and the results came back as:

210
200
200
210

Which is better than I was expecting, nothing wildly out.

All spark plugs were burning really well. Pressurising the water system highlighted a leak from one of the turbo water lines that goes into the back of the block.

A few other little things to sort as well from the inspection, but there more a bunch of niggles than anything else so I should be sorted to have my tune booked in and done by the end of the month.

My head could literally explode with the amount of information Will has provided me with though. He knows what he's talking about and can explain things on the right level as he is a genuinely knowledgeable person. Also, his business morals are on such an honest level as well – you rarely get this these days.

He gave me the time of day to discuss all of my aims and has also taken the time with me to come to the best solution short-term which is really good.

Anyway, enough bumming – he's not mapped my car yet.

Right so the below graphs are based on a road-tuned Crome Pro map, with the only change since the map being that the ignition timing is running ever so slightly retarded (just a touch, due to the old crank pulley having a chip in it where the timing marks were so had to run a couple of mm retarded from when it was tuned)

So here's my AFR and boost pressure from the baseline test we ran.. take note that max boost is 6.2 psi, but IIRC the average peak boost from all the runs was around 6 psi. Make of the AFR what you will haha.. :0 It's not *very* good...

Image

Once or twice Will thought he could physically hear what sounded like detonation around 7000rpm the first time and 7800rpm the next time. Not good. And here's the power and torque at the hubs: (NOTE: this is not WHP so don't get confused!)

Image

The power delivery it showed was what I expected and felt the car to be in real life. The torque curve is nowhere near as great as I'd like it to be.

SO overall, much more to come :D I'm full of knowledge and a list of what I need to do/fit before the tuning session.

Oh and just for you Ford boys, here's a quick picture of one of the three Fiesta he's working on at the minute too - not sure if this is the one he's designed the 700bhp Mk6 ST sidewinder manifold for or not, but it was very, very clean.
