another update found some nasty rot on the inner sill on my si


so i took the carpet out to get ot ready for welding and the underlay was wet and falling apart



took whole lot out



found another hole



so decided to work out where the water was getting into the car as water washing it water was dripped down behind the dash and the water is getting in from some rust thats caused the seam sealer behind the ecu mounting to split so has been letting in water for sometime

the car is yet again off the road and will be for sometime as theres so much to sort on it to make it more user friendly for when the baby comes so im out in the xr2i replica again

which for the third year in a row passed its mot woth no faults at all not bad for a car thats covered over 150,500 miles

ive been tidying it up in recent months with the bumper etc and painted the inside front xr2i arch as it was stonechipped badly its not perfect but it looks a lot better


and a better condition rear bumper


and fitted a new heater matrix as it was blocked and a new stat



will have some regular updates on the si soon

now she's off the road you have a fair bit of time to get it all sorted out, runabout is looking good though

The sound deadening is what will have made it worse. Its like a sponge. Just keeps hold of the water. Id not replace it, i didnt when my si leaked. Just asking for disaster.

very true matt, im going to replace the main underlay with another one but was think of using sound proofing mats for the footwell/under dash areas instead but im not sure as the dash has probably got to come out to fix the leak

Keep at it mate i love this car too

phil i know you don't like useing the grinder, but why don't you cut the welds off your current jose joint bushes and press the bearings out. i may have read it wrong but as you said if your only going to get 100 quid back from them and the new ones are 200 quid without bushes you could cut the spot welds off and press them out?
