as im drawing near my 'project', im looking at fitting all the suspension, brakes etc. the hubs are coming off for new wheel bearings and the rear beam will be coming off for paint etc.

so im trying to figure out which will be more beneficial. axel spaces, or hubcentric wheel spacers?

i know the pros and cons of each, but just need friendly advice and pointing in the right direction :)

also, longer wheel studs, if i use hubcentrics, i will want to obviously have longer studs. where should i get them?

thanks, Ben

Simply space the axel rather than the wheel is it will stress bearing less.

As for longer studs, ebay?

Not sure with hubcebtrics onstuds, I know on my saxo (they use bolts instead of nuts) to which the spacer bolted to the hub then the wheels bolted into the spacer using normal length bolts, so maybe with studs they may use shorter studs, I guess it depends on the thickness too.

not sure how much though chaps.wheels on si always seem to hug into the arch too much and make it look gay. want a nice wide stance but not too wide.

any suggestions?

Interesting picture for you on spacage!

Can't remember the offset difference but it won't be hard to figure.

Use axle spacers on the rear - you will need to get some made up though because the bolt design on the mk3's are different to the mk5's ect so the ones you can buy from ford ect won't fit. I have a drawing of the pattern with dimensions somewhere which I will dig out if interested. 20mm either side should be a good start, that will widen the track by 40mm overall.

Fronts - leave them alone, they will be spaced out enough to be fair. But if you do want more pokage then invest in some normal spacers.

Of course, it all depends how low you want to be going.

I got my extended wheel nuts from rallydesign... they wasn't expensive at all.

The hubcentric ones probably will but I wouldn't really use them knowing how easy the bearings can go - especially on the rear.

The ford axle spacers won't fit either no, because of the bolt pattern.

5mm spacer with longer studs. Going to get proper axle spacers made up though because the wheels sit in wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much.

Sport KA's share the same beam as the zetec-s, so no they won't fit

I have a set of longer front wheel studs for sale ben think they will fit the rear also, I went for hubcentric spacers on the rear and have had massive spacers on the back for 4 years and had no problems with the rear wheel bearings, but do understand there will be increased stress on them but as I said before rear bearings only take about 10mins to fit anyway ;)
