Hi everyone I hope I can pick the collective mind's brain and ask for some help,

My Fiesta's timing belt decided to snap and destroyed its engine! So I have found a zetec-s 1.4 from a 2000 Focus at a really good price with all the ancillaries and wiring loom. From pictures they look very similar, BUT, is the Focus engine compatible with the Fiesta?

Mechanic friends have said that with a bit of swapping bits over the block is the same and the clutch and gearbox will fit straight on, but id prefer to ask people who are more aware of these things, im sure someone on here has done something similar or the same thing!

I have already seen that some of the mounts are the same, which is good as my Fiesta has A/C and the pump needs to go where the power steering pump on the Focus engine is, so move those around.

The only difference I can see so far that concerns me is the rocker covers, my Fiesta has a black plastic top and the Focus lump is all metal (silver) I have read some bits of info about phase 1 or 2. Not sure which is which here.....

If anyone has any advice or experience of this it would be a great help.

the gearboxes will be different as the focus one will be cable operated where as the fiesta is rod
as your fiesta is a 1998 it should have the metal cam cover and not a black plastic one. so it sounds like your engine has been changed in the past.
the engine will fit but you will need to swap over the fiesta ancilleries

I disagree with the rocker cover comment.

I had an R-Reg 1998 Fiesta 1.25 Zetec-S and it had the black plastic cam cover.
Dont know if the 1.4 is different but Iwouldnt have expected so.

Basically, my main concern is that the inlet and exhaust ports are on the right sides of the engine. IIRC (and again im basing on the 1.25 Zetec-S here) that the inlet is at the front and exhaust at the rear. As long as the new engine is the same then it should be similar to the 2.0 Zetec-E upgrade in that its a nuts and bolts swap over all mounts ancillaries etc and it'll fit fine!
