Right, here's one for anyone who has the Fiesta Mk3 16v Zetec Samco Hose kit, TCS404/c.

Got mines through today and set about installing it.
No bother until I got to the last hose, the thermostat housing to the heater matrix.
Got the hose off and checked it against the one supplied by Burton Power and it just won't fit! It'd have to bend back 180 degrees on itself to fit.

Checked the Burton website again and the one I have looks like the one in their picture.

Now, the box is still at work so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to check the hose contents against the list in the lid but the one I have has 2808 stamped on it.

As you can see it just goes the wrong way.

Anyone else had this or did they just fit right?

Cheers

Paul

are the thermostat housing and heater matrix in the same places on the 2.0l as they were on the 1.6?

The best thing you can do is put it around the other way so the crank is opposite to the existing crack.. maybe lol

Hi Ben,

Yeah, the 2.0ltr is identical to the 1.6 and 1.8 (RS1800) engine layout, matrix and thermostat in same place.

Stainlessmole, are you on crack or something?
What are you talking about man??? :D

Have done today and heard back from them too!

Apparently the kit is a coolant/breather kit. And the hose pictured above is the breather hose and not a coolant hose.
So, the Samco Coolant hose kit doesn't actually give you a replacement hose for all hoses, just for 5 out of 6 and give you a breather hose which needs to be a high spec silicon hose about as much as I need to have titanium screws holding my ashtray in place, very nice but absolutely fucking useless!!
I shall be writing a particularly shitty email to Samco direct as I think it is exceptionally misleading that they don't supply the full coolant kit.

Twats!

That is all :)

You could just cut the end few inches off, insert a joiner with 2 jubilee clips and turn the end peice around, not ideal considering the price of the kit but a solution, or just buy a lenght of silicon hose yourself with a few bends and make the pipe,

Tonwah,
Yeah, that is an option, but considering i've spunked 200 buck on them I ain't letting no knife near them ;)

Ben,
Samco don't do that hose. Roose do it for £36 but I've been speaking with Samco and am posting them my current hose plus the small hose going from the water rail to the thermostat housing as that isn't part of the kit either. They are then going to make a Samco hose for them both and add them to the kit.
the lower rad hose doesn't quite fit properly for my liking so i'm sending them that back along with my almost new (500 miles) gen ford one for them to look and and re-do.

Apparently the guy who supplied his hoses to make the kit wrote his car off the week he installed the hoses so they never really got any feedback on the kit. So looks like I'm the new guinea pig, so any problems with future Samco kits for the Si, M'eh! Sorry :)

Should hopefully make it perfect though as other than that the kits is immense!

I shall keep you all updated.

Paul :)

The reason people never use samco on a zetec fiesta is because it doesnt have all the hoses. Samco even know that themselves, ive spoken to samco reps in the past about it. Roose are what people normally use. Just as good quality and cheaper too.

Fair enough they will be sorting it out, about time too really, but they will bump the price of the kit up no doubt lol

Danny,

The Roose kits actually works out more expensive once yo buy them both comapred to the Samcos current price.
And, if yo look at the Roose lower rad to water pump hose it looks crap compared to Samco.

Samco are planning on splitting the kit in a similar way to reduce the cost of the kits so they can be bought piece by piece or in smaller kits or in the full kit.
Hopefully once we've finished this to and fro then the Samco kit will include every coolant hose, including the water rai to thermostat one and will be the mutts nuts!

I did have a Roose kit a while back that I never put on and it felt very soft and flimsy compared to the Samco ones, so personally I would always go Samco.

Ben,

Don't know about a refund, not really spoken about it but there has certainly not been any costs mentioned for getting the hose made up and sorting out the lower rad hose, so hopefully should get this done for nothing extra which will be fine by me!
And yeah, hopefully the kit should be a simple swap over once all this is sorted!

Paul

Right guys,

Quick update, have had the head off and checked, all came back ok.
So have replaced the head gasket with a fibre one and was just waiting the hoses from Samco.

And look what arrived on my desk today :)
Image

Compared to the picture above it looks a lot more like it should do.
The little one is the water rail to thermostat hose.

So will get them on tonight, as I need the car tomorrow :) And let you all now how it goes.

Fingers crossed...

Paul

Right then,

Hoses fitted a treat, all coolant'd up and holding water fine for now...but, and there is always a but!! and in this case 2 of them...

1) The rocker cover gasket is pishing oil out like nobodies business down the back of the block, at least it better be the rocker cover gasket ;) Got a new one in the garage so will change that over on Sunday.
2) She will not, for the love of god, idle. At all, period! Starts on the button, runs and sounds smooth as a nut when your on the throttle but will not idle, foot off the gas = dead. No hunting, not even a glimmer of trying to catch hersef just stops.
Can hold her at any revs with the throttle fine, but wont do it herself.

Now, number 1 is an easy fix, but what about number 2. Open to all suggestions for possible causes as I'm a bit flumoxed due to the fact she is running so well on throttle, which in my mind rules out fuel issues. I've got a new MAF somewhere so i'll try that sunday but i'm open to any suggestions as said.

Cheers guys

Paul
