Again its been a while since i updated this thread but oh well, first off my abs light wasnt coming on with the ignition and as the mot was coming up this was becoming an issue. so after i managed to get a decent insurance renewal quote and i knew i could keep the car i decided to do somthing about it.

so removed the dash and took it apart and much to my suprise (not) the bulbs had been removed. so i went on ebay and bought myself a set from a breaker with the bulbs working and as i expected the abs light stayed on. plugged into the abs at work with diagnostic equipment and there are no fault codes. Now if your not in the motor trade and someone says to you that working on cars these days is plain and simple all you have to do is stick a computer on the car and it says whats wrong then take it from me its not like that when you take your car to the garage and they charge you £40 or whatever for "just sticking a computer on it" its not only paying for the huge costs of buying such equipment but the time of someone who can read and use the infomation correctly to find the problem.

anyhow i am getting to a point here, as there was no codes i decided to have a bit of a think and plugged the equipment back in making it record the readings from each wheel speed sensor so i could read them when i pulled over. the conclusion of all this is that the rear left sensor is sending no wheel speed to the modulator. thats where im at now with the abs.

in the middle of all this going on one weekend the car decided it didnt like its os/r wheelbearing any more and chewed it up. got some pics of the old bearing after 4 miles of it becoming noisy.
Image
this pic shows the component parts of the wheel bearing.
Image
one chewed up bearing. for those who dont know the rollers that are loose in the middle of the inner part of the bearing are all meant to be held together by a cage which was just metal swarf, when i removed the drum the rollers fell on the floor.
Image
this picture shows the old abs ring which has been worn down and dented by rubbing against the wheel speed sensor.
Image
and i have 2 new abs rings this is the one i have still to fit, as you can see the teeth are much larger on this one

also i have been collecting a few more bits i have my pollyflex rear beam bushes as they need to be replaced for the mot and i have a lower strut brace which will be fitted along with a set of new front arms and drop links, the arms arnt failable but they are a fair few years old and fitting fresh stuff cant be bad.

hmm i know noticed it making a bit of a noise on sat afternoon as i drove home from work, about a miles drive. left the car for the rest of the weekend as i knew it was the wheel bearing and didnt want to drive it.

used it monday to go to work, didnt manage to get round to fitting it that night so had to drive home and on the way there on tuesday morning the back of the car felt really loose. when i jacked it up it felt like the hubnut was loose. seems the only place you can get abs rings from is ford and they are £20 each.

the zs is still here, havnt sold, scrapped, broken or sold it which is good for me seeing as i have had it 6 months now.

Anyhow managed to get it though the mot with the following advisaries:

both front number places slightly discoloured but not likely to be misread.
corosion in osr wheel arch.
pas pressure switch wiring broken.

for the mot i had to sort the abs, fit a suspension arm and renew the rear suspension bushes which is pretty common on a 12 year old fiesta. main thing is that there were no nasty holes left in the bottom after the mot which is a first for me.

the abs fault turned out to be an open circuit in the osf wheel speed sensor, so after replacing that the light went out and all was well. mind you the old sensor didnt want to come out very easy and ended up in quite a sorry state.

as for the rear axle bushes i went for the method of keeping the axle still fitted to the car, lowered down on a jack and then spend a good while cutting away at the rubber and metal until i could split the outer casing with a chisel allowing it to pop out. a set of polibushes were then fitted and the rear of the car feels really tight now.

the next plan is to fit the lower strut brace when i replace the os suspension arm. its mainly all maintenance stuff really not modding but you see so many cars these days where people spend loads on stickers and wheels ect and then moan when somthing goes wrong.

i dont really dare get it rolling roaded in case it blew up, it has done the best part of 110k now. but on the other hand it does seem to be one of the better engines i think it did suprise you a little didnt it lou?

If it blows up on the dyno at least you can hang around with people and have a laugh whilst waiting for the AA! Rather than on the side of the motorway lol
