parts arrived today so started getting the car ready for its mot on friday

firstly my valentines day presant, handy little air ratchet, does upto 50lbs/ft at 150rpm, so goo enough for your average nut and bolt, will be buying a impact socket soon

buying these now as we recently was given a broken compressor we repaired easily

Image

first job was the rear ARB bracket that had snapped some time ago, only noticed it when i changed the suspension, so thanks to Tom peters (FT.com) for providing these at unbelievably quick postage speeds

Image

Image

next was the rear brake load bias valve that comes on the ABS models, was overly slack and caused an advisory on my last mot, not 100% sure i done it right, never come across one before!

then swapped my rear lights back to standards, and fit amber indicator bulbs

Image

looks very nice imo

also checked all the engine levels, all were good, even though sometimes i find the coolant level drops randomly
oil is still golden :D and checked the tyres too

so bring on the mot all ready for it!

and some sneakies with the capri

Does anyone knob what sensor this is? only noticed it when digging around and ive never changed that on my car when trying to route out my idle issue

thinking about it, the 1.4 si didnt come with a rear anti roll bar mate

but yea there is two different rear brackets, one fits to the shock bolt,
the other just bolts to the beam, these are the beam ones, the one thats discontinued for the shock bolt has a spacer in it

i simply added a piece of the old broken bracket to space it (as it already has the bolt hole)

did when i changed the suspension over, nothing to spot

considered changing the droplinks regardless but i run out of money this pay :P

tiny update regarding the mot prep...

bought a spare fog lamp a few weeks back and decided to pop it on today

mine was franked as it was lacking enough mounts to hold it steady, the new one has all 4 brackets, so stops it swinging around!

Image

new one in and my bulb tranfered over

Image

also, since lowering it further, my tyres rub on the front over larger bumps, this has started to knock the arch kit off, so bulled bumper sides off slightly, and the arches and knocked back the metal that ironicly folds out towards that tyre, hammered that back.

replaced the arch and bumper, then drilled and put a self taper into the end of the arch to stop it coming away

Bad news...

she fail the MOT

3 things:

corroded steel rear near side brake pipe = easy
nearside rear chassis leg corroded within range of beam mounting = bitch to do as its tight and my arc welder aint for underneath cars
offside rear chassis leg corroded within range of beam mounting = " " "

a number of advisories, but nothing sinister

bit gutted really went in confident i done all that was needed, dont know how i missed the holes

decided not to rush it, thinking about getting the free retest etc, no point as it will only skimp and come back to haunt me

so putting a list of tools needed together, borrowing the dosh and im going to do it proper!
which includes the beam coming off, rear arch kit coming off and time spent, got myself some metal from a mate, its galvanised too so thats good, and will be buying some red oxide too!

once the capri is running and out, im getting tempory cover on it, use that to get around, and this will be going in the garage to get sorted, no deadline but preferably a month as the capri only is taxed till end of march...

Try and spot any other areas that aren't MOT failure and solve them as well, you don't want them biting your ass off next MOT!

a mate got me quite nervous about the capri lol, reckons even with just 100bhp (standard 2.0 pinto) they are easy to get the arse going, i wont know what to do lol never experienced oversteer! :D :P

If you get oversteer, steer into it, and with rear wheel drive, gently bring on the throttle. Snap changes on the pedals will kill you.
