I saw an ST170 in grey today, see what you mean about the front end, very smart.Still not a big fan of the rear but i'm not much on any of the newest fiestas/focus's rear ends, but there not the worst thing in the world

Yeah, i find they suite big wheels well, plain focus with small wheels look weak. The 17" wheels help alot.

I do like a 170, whats the insurance like? Running costs? and what power can be had out of them?

look at dalsy's engine, 220bhp with itb's aftermarket management etc

when it comes to the usual filter and exhaust setup you wont see much as they already got stainless steel exhaust etc, even the head has been port polished by cosworth. There are super charger kits for them and there is one st170 that has been turbo'd with impressive gains.
People go on about bluefin and dreamscience maps, youll only get an extra 10bhp(give or take) but they make the car respond better.
running costs, insurance for me an missis is over £2000 but im in high risk area, my si went to £1700 so when you look at it like that it aint too bad concidering i was under 25 when i started the insurance. As for fuel, rape it and it will drink, nice and peiceful and iv been getting about 35mpg.

its not a 0-60 car as it feels quite peiceful lower revs but mid range is great, it delivers torque pretty early so coming out of bends isnt an issue. On the motorway its nice to have a choice of gears to drop down to as it revs to 7200rpm nicely which in second will get you to 70mph.

it corners great, im running shit tyres and it still remains quite composed.

performance asside its a nice car with plent of room front, back and boot.

they do have very good reviews, i agree the 0-60 on them aint great, but the 6 speed boxes make up for that in top end and mid range
