Well, sat in my car at the scrappy.

Didn't get the yards of wiring I was after, but I did find an escort with electric mirrors. Interior trim and control button HAD!!! Also got some mondeo one touch relays and holders with additional wires along with the electric mirror plug an wires for my mirrors that should be here tomorrow.

Just lookin for other random bits now. Didn't stay long as the weather is so window I thought cars would fly around.

ford still sell mk5 fiesta interior panels for electric mirrors, its not 100% perfect fit but its far better than bit of metal to stare at you will struggle to find mk3 ones

A start on the wiring. Most wiring out of one mondeo, apart from the E/M control. 3 Haynes manuals used to figure out the actual connections needed. Only about 20% of the wires were the expected colour and even the E/M plugs I've got don't have the left right colour distinction ford are supposed to use! So I can't even blame Haynes for being wrong.

And one of the one touch relays is a 5 pin. What the flip is the middle 5th for!?

So you did up and down? It's the motor wire from the switch you cut isn't it? Each one has it's own relay?

Well I fitted the one touch relays for the drivers side today. I have to get another motor for the window to fix the passenger side. Also wired in the drivers side electric mirror and it's control button. Currently using the MK7 escort (or is it the MK6? The bubble lights one that ruined the escort name) interior trim panel, had to chop off the front part of it and electrical tape it on (!).

Forgot to take more useful photos of the work. Ooops. Turns out the information I got about the difference between four and five pin was wrong. The four is on the up button, and it allows hold control and stop, the five only seems to allow one touch start and one touch stop! I'll be going over the wiring again in more detail soon and ripping an entire car loom out to work on!

Managed to find the MK3 equivalent of hens teeth (well, based on my eBay and scrapyard searching!). Interior trim plates for the mirrors, the electric version. Sure, they're off a MK4 but they do the job until I find MK3 items! Two pounds with the screws and plastic plug fixings!

Drivers side doesn't sit right, but the passenger side is fine. The last owner mashed on some M3 mirrors and tore the door card back badly. I may create a fixing that is hidden by the dashboard when the door is closed to pin these back properly.

Tip: If you find these in a scrappy to use them, then the red plastic plug that holds the screw in for these needs to be squashed parallel to the split in it to fit in the hole in the door. I have to take the mirrors off at some point with the wiring and stuff and what I'll do is a little picture guide on how to remove the internals and the brackets so that you can take off Escort electric mirrors and fit them on no problem to joystick type MK3.5 mirrors. The direct internals and the outside plastics are the same but the bracket that holds the mirror unit to the metal on the door is different.

Gave the car a quick jetwash, mainly for removing salt, grit and gunk from the arches to delay the rot. No pics as it still looks crap!

Current status (or stuff I should get round to asap):

Needs the passenger side mirror wiring in, along with the heated power for both sides.
Need to tuck that aerial cable in properly.
The radio motor needs resoldering so I can actually eject the tape adaptor for my iPhone dock.
Two new front tyres (and select which tyres are to be shifted to the rear) along with a new tracking setup done which I will also get videoed for a guide as requested!
I desperately need cash for coilovers. These shocks and springs ARE AWFUL! So crashy bangy down any road. Awesome through corners though.
I need to find out how to identify a Zetec engine. Specifically, a proper picture of where to read the engine code on the block of a fitted engine. This engine just runs poor at times and I don't think some parts should be on it. I'm probably wrong but it runs like crap sometimes but when warmed up and going it pulls too well for a 1.6.

you can still buy mk5 interior panels new from ford for just less than a tenner, mine fit perfectly

although my passengers side inside panel is a mk3 item
