I should hope it does last

Thats alright though, I could stick a bigger engine in my car that would then cost less to make faster..

Doesn't really matter does it  For now, he's slower in a straight line :D

But motorways are boring, all that happens is the scenery goes faster

Nothing like a good mountain pass.... :D

Sounds like your really getting there now Danny

And I totally agree with you about Nankang tyres, very good for the price, have been rolling on them for a good while now on the runabout with no problems at all :)

Ben - To be fair, its not the hardest job in the world, can be a lot of pissing around though. Mainly just finding out what hoses go where, what plugs connect to where on the loom ect, just time consuming really if you dont already know, then its just a matter of disconnecting everything and cracking on really.

The way I see it is there is no point rushing it, especially on your own. Might as well just make sure its all perfect and done properly :)

If I had it my way the engine wouldnt be in for another few days at least and I would be spraying some bits  But they can be painted on the engine so will do it that way lol.

Im looking forward to it going in. I think once its in and bolted up to the engine mount I will be happy, because then I know its literally a case of putting the exhaust back on, hoses here and there, a few plugs and wires, couple of cables and then fill it up with coolant and off it goes.

The only thing that doesn't fill me with greatest of confidence is the clutch, there is a new on on there and its Valeo - was listed for the car too on euro car parts website, so I trust it being right, but it doesnt look the same, and the release bearing looks different too any ford one I have seen before. Time will tell. Im sure it will be fine! :)

glad its going well

hardest part i find doing swaps is manoeuvring the engine and gearbox down/up the bay

when iput the 1800 in i was lazy and left the driveshafts in the hubs so avoiding them was a swine!, was harder doing that with no crane too, lowering the car down technique

I left the driveshafts in the hubs too, never taken them out even when I've done gearboxes and clutches. I dont find them hard to avoid, the short one on the gearbox side I find is easiest to place it in wheel arch with the steering on full left lock tied to the shock with string or something, then the long one can literally just rest on the chassis on the lower arm carrier. Didnt touch them once when getting the engine out :)

Only thing i have found hard is getting the engine out from under the car, because I dont like dragging stuff on the floor lol. Skateboard came in handy :P

I can imaging doing it with no crane is so hard! I actually cannot thank Jon off FT for lending me this, its actually made it so easy, its a complete must in my opinion. If I didnt have this crane I would never have gotten it done. Thats a fact too.

pretty sure if the clutch was listed for the car it should be fine, then again youre the expert, but then again it could just be you've never seen a valeo one before? :P

you are right, hence why ill be taking a week off to give me plenty of time and extra time to correct things i do wrong or do things i cant do :D

well me and a friend took the morning and early afternoon to drop it out of the mk4 without a crane, then spend the next day dropping the 1.6 out and fitting the 1.8 to the si, then day 3 to plumb everything in

wasnt fun the car had to be raise to belly button height to pull the engine clear!
