dave and danny, big thank you to educating me that little bit more ;)

i do remember being told about the lsd, if someone had just said limited slip diff that wud have been sooo much easier ;) but yeah, i completely get it, obviously doesnt wipe out wheelspin, but helps it a lot. so is the lsd built into the gearbox itself?

and thats awesome abotu the diesel, didnt realise the ratios were different, and obviously lower revs at higher speeds means you can go much further and faster in that rev range! sweeeeeet. thanks chaps :D will get my haynes out in a min to have a look at this timing mallarky!

Yeah you will never eliminate wheelspin, unless you have traction control of course :)

The diff is kinda built in, but you can take it out obviously.

When you strip down the gearbox a bit and take off all the housing, you will be left with this, you see the big ass round thing on the right? Thats the diff. The driveshafts go into that :)

all cars dnt have a diff though do they? otherwise youd have to have a gearbox that could take a diff?

Ben, all cars have a diff yeah :) Some have it in the gearbox, some in the rear axle in the diff box - rwd for example

lsd is a diff thats limited so when cornering, the wheel spinning faster gets less power to avoid understeer, which will get you round the bend faster then without ;)

It actually all depends what type of diff it is, there are so many different ones and they all work in different ways, but when it comes down to it, they all do the same job :)

Just a small update on the car/engine.

Got myself a RS1800/HO inlet manifold and throttle body, 2.0 maf and 2.0 DEWY ecu from funkynut off here which is awesome, those was the last bits I needed too.

So as you can imagine, I stripped them bits down, cleaned them up and sprayed them along with a spare rocker cover I had too.

I also bought a few new gaskets and a new splitter for the car because mine got ripped off being so damn close to the floor :lol:

Aaaaaaaaaaaand also, I got this of ebay for £5 :lol: I needed a workbench in the garage, so what better than a computer desk! does the job nicely, can work on parts in comfort now :lol:

glad the bits come, your so close to 130bhp now!

just gotta plonk it in :D


just my observation but im sure you know, might be easier to leave the ex manifold off it for fitting, saves smacking the front valance or taking the paint off the manifold L:(

Cheers guys :) Yeah the desk is a good idea in my opinion, I have always had the intention of building a work bench in there, initially it was just going to be a simple one but then my mum gave me that white tv unit you see on the right for storage and a mini workbench (£175 in ikea! lol) and then I thought about raising it up, but after a quick search on ebay, that popped up and it seemed perfect with the fact it has storage and is large too.

I've just spent an hour in the garage putting together the inlet manifold and doing some other bits - will get pics of the manifold tomorrow.

The engine should be going in tomorrow :)

With regards to the exhaust manifold Jony, I will be covering the engine completely when it goes in to stop any paint being chipped off and that. We will see how it goes tomorrow :)

only problem with the desk is its thin wood so hammering something on it wouldn't be ideal, could cover it in thicker wood i guess?

The top of the desk is actually quite thick, easily an inch might even be an inch and a half, its quite solid. But for £5 im not complaining lol.

I will probably put another sheet of wood on it eventually but for now it does the job perfectly. Plus if something needs hammering good and proper, thats where the floor comes in handy :)

Yeah I sure do Lou! Hopefully I should be feeling it tomorrow :)
