its just a tensioner with a bolt, but the one they supply has a bracket with it thats not right and the tensioner is slightly too small.

danny you dont need to lock your crank...

just set it to TDC and time it up, the crank wont move, put it in 4th if your feeling uneasy

never have needed to lock the crank on zetec's

chris its bloody unlucky that the crank pully was loose, such a silly mistake to have kill an engine :(
hope you find the right pully soon, life without a car is crap

Oh right, can't be that hard to get the right one lol. What about using a silvertop tensioner? They aren't spring loaded like the blacktop ones and are known to last longer too

The engine isn't in the car so can't put it in gear or anything. I can't remember how i did it on the 1.6 engine nearly a year and a half ago lol

just check your timing marks at the end, use a screw driver to check for TDC :)

to make sure, as ive put everything back together and the cams being slightly more advanced or retarded more than once lol, you will know as the car wont pull as well

I know how to change a cambelt and check it, done like 50 million of them. Never without an impact gun though  The tensioners on the silvertop are much better than blacktops, the spring loaded mech in them are known to fail in blacktop ones. Ian Howell uses silvertop ones on his engines no matter what, even on blacktop ones

 i could do it with my eyes shut, tbh most of the time ive worked on cars professionally ive done it blind - not being able to see what im doing, its just the way it is. I know everything there is to know, even how make an engine last over 1000 miles* with a fucked headgasket while the water and oil are mixing :)

*edit

No not really, its called having a sense of humour.

Read what I put too. I've done loads but never used a locking tool because I've always used an impact gun so there is no need to lock it.

I know how to lock it 'properly' too if I had the proper tool but I don't so was saying I'll probably make one. I could lock it without the tool no problem either.

Also, if you are referring to undoing the crank bolt with the cam locking tool in place and that's it, it's not a wise move, you'd be surprised how weak the cams are and they can break at the end, I've seen it before and also me and Chris have done it to a set of cams too

So tensioner problem solved eventually.

Then had another problem, rocker cover changed to aluminium and 4 bolts instead of 12, which meant I had to get another then that didn't fit.. Turns out I had to change 4 bolts in the cam caps to the new heads one as the had threads that stick up through the new rocker. Problem solved.

All back together ready to go! Checked it all over. Started it up, fired, started running it in, 5 minuites later it cut out.

Was smoking and I had my gf there and I assumed it was coolant on the mani or something as she said it was just smoking and there was nothing leaking or anything

Turns out the Injector plug was neatly resting on the mani, wasn't just the injector side it was the loom side so guess what?

Another new loom!

Either getting one sent for monday, or a Non-abs temp put in on sunday.

going to clear out the car tommorow and fit my new seats, make myself feel better  so pissed off!
