Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, I'm sure there are threads out there about comparing the two...?

from what i understand the next best thing for flow is the blacktop 2.0 focus plastic inlet, plus it fits the fiesta mk3 :)

seeing as i got a GTI one i fitted that, was a real pig to get in as i have also got the GTI gearbox with starter at the rear, had to squeeze in at an angle to clear it but its on and just need to plumb in and blank off some of the ports in the back

sound slike soo much effort for what exactly?

i used to wra the underside of my inlet pipe in sticky back foil to prevent heatsoak, worked a treat

The thing about the gti inlet is that the gti engine only produces 115bhp and the HO inlet is designed for 130bhp, so you are restricting the amount of air getting into the engine - slightly, so with the HO inlet you would get slightly more poke from the engine

But the gti inlet has exactly the same ports as the HO and is proven it can be used in turbo applications for up to 300bhp so it's not really restrictive its just the engine that is lol

Oh really? What about the internals of the manifold? Surely that has some restriction to lower it down to 115bhp? Because I think using that inlet with 130 spec cams, 2 litre maf and trottle body doesnt make it reach 130bhp? Or does it?

I think the gti MAF is the same size as the 2 litre one, im 99% sure of it, not sure about the throttle body though.

I know they have been used for 1.8 turbo engines, but the difference is its forced induction, so it would make a high bhp. Im just thinking on a N/A engine, would the gti one be slightly more restrictive over the HO one

thing is danny, the rs engine makes more as it has higher lift cams and a better map, so its unfair to say that, but i do agree i dont think the gti one is as good flowing as the H.O

i believe it will top out before the H.O

someone like paul who has an engine running on the borders of the H.O's limits could swap for a GTI manifold, rr it and see if the power drops, thats the easiest way i can think of figureing it out

(his is running 150~bhp)

Yeah thats what im trying to research at the moment.

Ryan on FT says his friend has a st170 engine running a deep ecu and gti inlet and its made 155bhp, ive asked if thats wheel or flywheel power, if its wheel power then you can work out roughly the flywheel power and see if it adds upto roughly 170bhp, that could give an idication on how well it flows.

Dan (lowsi) on here years ago put a gti inlet on his 2 litre engine but it ran poo - probably sensor problem of some sort, but it never got RR'd before or after so dont know the power differences :(

St170 engine running on a 136ps 2.0 ecu?? Really?? No wonder why it hasn't made 170 or more because it's running a lower map setting needs to be either running aftermarket or get a full st170 wiring loom to release the full power and to get more

the inlets on the ST170 is its party piece, its very optimised, im certain the focus mk1 inlets fir the mk3 fez, so why didnt he run the standard inlet

That air temp sensor fits into the crossover pipe as you can see in the top centre off this picture of when i fitted one my old car

Don't see the point in swapping a ho for one.

If you haven't got a ho one then fair enough.

the engine i have fitted was a 115ps engine from a GTI so hence having a GTI inlet laying around, i had the HO on with cross over pipe which restricted the bonnet from closing fully, (i am not a fan of bonnet raisers) also if the flow rates are not much different, the weight difference is huge... HO is a heavy bit of kit where as the GTI hardly weighs anything

from what i have measured, the TB is the same size as the HO

odd you have issues with the bonnet, whats the car these are in? a mk3 fez?

it the standard crossover pipe?

its in the later mk3.5 so had all the mounting holes there already :)

not standard cross over pipe was a silicone one the elbowed off the inlet across the ht leads and down by the top hose for the filter... the bonnet cut into the pipe and was having to slam it to lock down properly

this is a set up that cleared the bonnet but you could feel it and hear hitting the bonnet on revs... its doing my nut in...

oh and the HO will be up for sale soon complete i might add!!! PM me for more details

im not surprised that hit tbh its very large, hmm shame

nice mod ont he straight pipe for the water conduit, the standard ones are crap, ive used rubber pipe tied to the valance to avoid it, but yours is brilliant
