Right gents if some of you might have seen im going to be trying to make the best out of a rs1800 with money not an option without putting in a turbo or a supercharger as i want to use the car day to day. But down to what ive said in the subject does anyone know where where i can get forged parts for the car as it will be off the road until summer so looking to do a lot of work during the winter anybody with information would be brilliant cheers

If money is no object, start with a 2.0 engine, the extra 200cc will make a difference when it comes to getting as much power out of the engine as possible in its N/A form.

You will probably chuck loads at a 1.8 engine and not get the same results you would if you did the same to the 2.0 :)

If you go much over 180 it wont drive well at all as a daily.

You need to work out what you want.

If your gonna fit high comp pistons start with a 2.0, make it 2.1 and fit a 1.8 head. Itbs I wouldn't go too big if you want a daily car.

Thanks for the info lads im looking just to get a decent 170-180 out the car but to make it as reliable as it can for going to shows ect could i use a 2.0 bottom end with the 1.8 head? and what would be the best option for the gearbox get the one i have re-built or would taking one out of a escort or st be a better way? im still very new to the whole ford scene so any help or advise would be really helpful

"If you go much over 180 it wont drive well at all as a daily."

i agree completely with that, the cams and inlet/ITB's needed to get above these figures would make it idle and run at low revs quite lumpy, not to mention that you'd need a better clutch to cope, preferably a paddle clutch, again making it snappy at biting point

you'd likely want stiffer engine mounts to cope, this again will play hell for daily use as vibrations will anoy you

in my opinion your best starting with a ST170 engine, and you can just put it in and be happy, cams and a remaps and these engines see 200 quite easily, be alot cheaper than making a silvertop 1.8/2.0 to match that power when you consider you'd need itb just to pass 160bhp ;)

1.8 head on a 2.0ltr bottom end will raise the comp. ratio ever so slightly which is good for NA tuning.

That mated with cams, itbs, ecu should see up to 170-180bhp.
But don't go for massive itbs, you'll get higher bhp topend at a loss of lower down useable power and torque. Smaller itbs will give you more low down power and torque at a loss of the all so mighty bhp figure.

Paddle clutch it.
Gearbox you might cope with an erst lsd box if you don't launch it like a chav all the time.

the uni chip wont help much, best to get it remapped properly to work with what mods you have once done
