Whats the main differences between the standard 1.6 fiesta si gearbox and the 1.8 escort gti one?

The ones I know of are: (correct me if I'm wrong)

- The escort one (iB5?) is stronger than the fiesta one (BC?)
- Rear starter motor

Are there any others? Longer ratios ect?

Last query is; the part number on the escort gearbox is: 96WT-7F096-BA

Which when googled, it turns out to be a escort 1.6 box, even though the car is/was a 1.8 gti... is this something ford have done or has it perhaps been changed?

The main reason I am asking, is when I bought my 2 litre mondeo engine (which a guy I know put it in his escort gti), he gave me the gearbox too, so was wondering what would give me better performance and/or economy. I know its going to be quick either way lol

It'll most likely be slightly longer than the Fiesta Si box, so would be ideal.
Si box is too short for the 2.0ltr IMO

So stick with that box, or source another one if your not sure.

I've used, RS1800, Diesel, 1.1, 1.6 & ERST boxes :lol:

Yeah I had noticed the Si box is quite short ratio'd

When it comes to changing the engine, I may just leave the Si box in there, use it for a bit and then source other parts like a focus 4 branch manifold and stuff, then change it over when I can be arsed.

Might changed my mind yet though lol.

The fact I found out the 1.6 IB5 is the same part number makes me think it might be same sorta ratios as the si box.. something I will look into

stick the ib box in, its stronger, and if you add a puma linkage to it it is a cheap quick shift... :)

Well my ratios done seem that short, this is basically exactly the same as mine at the monemt apart from the top end which ive never got to, had 130mph on the speedo downhill, 120-125 on a straight on average, so top end could be the same, dont know.

Ibviously the chart isnt for my car, but the Step 3 part which shows the speed in each car is the relevant bit

I think what I may do is run with this box, see how it is, if its complete shit then ill change to the ib5 box, see what thats like. If one seems better than the other, for acceleration ect, then I will see if I can get a diesel 5th or something... who knows, will have to wait and see!

I quite fancy fitting a diesel 5th in this ERST box although its probably pointless, as this box is fairly long anyway.

That sounds normal for an si box. Erst one goes off the "clock" but I'm not talking about real term speed before anyone starts.

I can hit 75 on clock in 2nd at limiter
