Be careful, very sad story

You hear about this every now and then, it is sad to hear it, but these things happen.

If I ever work under my car I generally make sure there are at least 2 or 3 sources of security to stop it rolling and then another 2 or 3 to prevent it falling, im quite careful when it comes to that. Usually when I jack it up ect, ill give the car a good shake as hard as i can in most directions to see if it falls, if it does, then the only damage done is to the car not me, and that way I know its safe too lol. I properly started taking this much caution when my friend was working on his car and the jack failed while he was under it, even having a wheel there wasnt enough to stop the car crushing him. Before that I would just jack it up and slide under.

Anyway, RIP to the old guy.

What a way to go, as you say it really is safety first as with many things its the 'it will never happen to me' feeling, but as it shows it does happen to people.

Haha Dave is just the one I know who has his car completley off the floor on blocks and stands and it looks a bit dangerous

I'm a bit blase about this to be honest. I know I shouldn't be, I put way too much trust in my jack (a proper trolley jack, not a scissor thing or mini trolley jack, but still). Which is odd considering I had a mates car come off it's axle stands once while I was sitting next to it

Iv trusted the jack to much, also even ground is a must!

Poor guy! I think its easy to become complacent when working under a car, and think there is no chance of it coming off, and thats when risks are taken with over tight bolts etc. I always take great care when working on my cars when up in the air, and make sure they are well secure before going under them

I also have a strict rule never to get under a car that is only supported by jacks, hydrolics only fail once.......

Accidents do happen though. Rest in peace

im a bit cautious about it myself, i tend to rock the car after securing it to see if its stable

but still, near enogh a ton can land on us if were not careful, and if its lowered you wont fit under the floor

just noticed this thread, poor guy I always make sure I use axle stands, it not worth the risk

I used to work on the rs1800 under a forklift lol
