hi guys im thinking of getting rid of my tired old gmax suspension kit from my si which ive had on the car for 7 years never had a problem with them, just fancy something new and fresh and a bit more up market

ive been looking at pi, spax psx, gaz coilovers

i basically want something thats not going to cause any problems ive heard the seals in avo coilovers can go wrong, pi springs have lifetime warranty but shocks only 1 year, gmax kits have 3 years warrantys, spax 2 years i think

i dont want to go to mad with the cash, but if i do i will be killed by the mrs but if i was to go for spax for 450 but just another 100 quid i could have coilovers, but i dont fancy spending 550 quid i cant decide

new gmax kits are about £220

pi full kit £270

spax psx (adjustable damping) £450

gaz coilovers £550

i really cant decide what to go for

im only going to use the car for 5-6000 miles a year but it will be driven pretty hard just want it to last and handle well, i keep on going back to spax as all the fiestas ive seen with them on a 60mm drop look lower on the rear than the gmax 60mm kit and give it a perfect stance, ive uprated everything on the car poly bushes and rose jointed camber adjustable wishbones handling wise.

i have also seen a set of coilovers tuv approved from germany no make listed was on ebay for £360 brand spanking 2 years warranty, not sure if there fk coilovers without the stickers??



any ideas whats the best all rounder?

People complain about the avos leaking but there only as good as there maintained. Need to keep the shit out of them! (wrap them springs in clingfilm - keeps threads clean and stops dirt going everywhere on them)

The avos are comfortable, and adjustable so if you want to take it round a track you can make them suit.

As you know I am running AVO's, daily car. No problems so far, had them for over a year now. Bought them 2nd hand too.

I dont look after them as such, only give them a quick inspection every now and then, lube up the threads ect. So far, no problems what so ever.

They are so smooth too, I would never go back to shocks and springs. I have had a number of people in my car and they didnt think it was on coilovers as most people think coilovers are solid.

Peoples opinions will change with everything. Some will say AVO are shit, some will say they are the best they have had.

Avo i've seen are more off road that on road, due to "regular servicing"

Then someone came back and said "i've done x amount of races and x amount of miles and never had a problem" and that killed that.

If you want handling, i'd go for the Spax kit as i've heard very very good things about them, even better than coilovers (I guess they would probably be better if all set up right, but some "budget" coilovers aren't always the best option)

So unless you want mega lows get some spaxxx

cheers guys, well ive definately ruled out avos, due the fact that I want them on and to last, so in the new year im ordering a new set of gaz coilovers, not gold ones as the about a million quid so just the fast road/track ones with damping adjustment

I had three second hand and one brand new.

There really good even just dumped on and not set up properly! They work really well and you can really help to letting you chuck it round corners.

I can only imagine how good they'll be on a harder setting and at a good height!

On the vag forums they all buy the cheaper coilies Joms etc and ebay specials. i hate them a few of my mates have them and there so crashy, then went out in a mates ibiza on AP coilovers and it was completely different so smooth yet stiff.

Thats why i havent whacked on the cheaper alternative. Might go for AP's or FK's.

Yeah but you can't get much cheaper on the ZS so they are the budget second hand coilover that doesn't perform immensley just gives you plenty of lows. Friend went from gaz to AP and hated it

There isnt a massive choice with fords. Plus gaz are one of the best makes bar a few.
