Took the car for it's MOT...

3 failures, brake pipe fixings down the central exhaust channel (x2) and a rust hole on the inner side of the drivers side sill lip. Car has already been dropped off for welding work to be done and I'm about to go pick it up. Then I'm waiting on the weather to dry out so I can get under the car and sort the fixings out.

That's all it failed on. Brakes fine, emissions fine, suspension fine. Stunned all that stuff passed! Had an advisory for general surface rust underneath, but I know this just needs a damn good cleaning and protecting. Another advisory for an oil leak, though I suspect I just need to get under the car with a jetwash as the oil level never drops and the previous owner didn't know that oil goes in a hole in the engine cover instead of pouring it straight on the engine block...

Picked the car up from the welding on the 27th and took it home for the brake pipe fixings issue. Two packs of zip ties (seriously) and a sore arm later and I was done. Took it back in for the retest on the 31st and it passed straightaway.

Just seen the diy tracking you did, loving it. I'm gonna do that (I used to do it with a tracking bar, but its a pain in the arse to use)

Only issue is, mines too low to reach to the track rod ends lol

Nah, you only need to get and arm in there, maybe practice with the positions to reach with the spanners when it's jacked up.

Yeah lol. Just a thought to make it easier, use the zip ties as markers still, and then ask your sister/missus/mum for a handbag mirror to rest on the ground :)

Well until better weather comes along, my current project is seeing how much the petrol gauge lies. Let the needle go horizontal and hit clear on the trip meter. 11.1 miles and counting, no cough or chug yet.

On the petrol guage, hit 34.1 miles before needing more putting in, lol.

Latest change:

Image

I want to modify the dashboard so I have a foldaway dock for when the phone isn't in it, and angle it backwards as the phone is far too upright at the moment. Next time I go to the local scrapyard I'm cutting out a good chunk of dashboard for experiments and kinda designing something in lego digital designer!

I know the dashboard needs a damn good clean! Also a PROTIP! for you all, UHU glue doesn't mark dashboard material. It looks messy but it molds into position and works by suction grip :)

Well it's been a long time coming but I'm starting to get hold of little bits here and there. The mod today:

Image

Not installed for performance, noise or anything chavvy. Simply for the fact I've had to chop the standard airbox to fit round the mondeo servo and master cylinder.

Image

Oh dear. Anyway, it's sorted now! Not driven it yet to assess the effects, but it's going to get a good a road run to Nottingham later.

Also PMed another member on here about parts he's selling, waiting for him to reply.

Got the wiring plans in place for two rear courtesy lights, second boot light, electric mirrors are on the way too.

nice mate, mirrors are a nice touch i can vouche for that.

fuck cutting the box up mate just remove them load restrictors from the pipes, if you have drums you dont need them anyway
unless the servo itself fouls the box?

i hope not as ive just been sent a standard airbox and i dont want my escort servo getting in the way

escort one and mondeo one are the same size.

you can fit them bias valves inline at the back of the car between the solid pipes and flexy pipes

Escort one needs welding though doesn't it? If I was doing it again, I would choose the Mondeo one simply for the fact of chopping and welding a pretty critical part of the braking system. Not sure I'd like that even done by a well and truly seasoned professional.

Got a list of items either already got from the scrappy, or in the post:

Electric mirrors
Two interior courtesy lights
Second boot light

Want to find two more boot lights to install under the dashboard as footwell illumination on the respective sides. The new interior courtesy lights will be hooked up to the front courtesy light for power and then grounded off to the respective side and they'll be placed just behind the sunroof where the two ribs curve upwards. That'll make things easier with the kids!

Going to go down to the scrappy tomorrow and strip another fez of as much wiring and plugs as possible.
