well i fitted the front springs to the ignis tonight which was a nightmare to start off with the lower shock bolts being really rusty and done up really tight so some of them rounded off so had to grip em with a mole grips which took a while to get it to grip properly eventually we got them off.

anyway eventually we got the front done and i managed to replace the rounded off bolts with new ones.

front sits lovely now and the ride is good, quite bouncy but i like it...

well when it came to the rear we had a problem.

on the drivers side the lower shock bolt where it goes through the shock into the axle is seized inside the sleeve in rubber shock bush, when you turn the bolt the bush just twists them springs back, and the impact gun doesnt work on it either...

so looks like im gona have to cut the bolt and get it out somehow... probs gona need some rear shocks as well unless i can save them and get the bolt out of it. tbh though they are looking a it tatty anyway. so im gona price some kyb gas ones up in work tommorow, hopefully the wont be too expensive...

the other side came out ok by the way.

im gutted i just wanna get it dropped!! :( :(

Ahh what a bugger, have you tried to spray wd40 on and left it to soak then tried? Attempted heat on it? Attempted to try and wedge the bush to stop it turning? I hate seized bolts lol. Every bolt i remove on my car gets copper grease applied to prevent seizeing!

yeah ive left it soaked in wd40, perhaps it will come undone next time i try but i dont think so.

i havent tried heat on it coz i would definately need a new shock then.

ahh its a pain in the arse mate!! bloody jap crap lol

i can get monroe rear shocks for 37 quid each, im gona price the KYB ones tommorow but i think they are like 60 each... but will soon see. least ill have new shocks on the back then.

nobody makes uprated shocks for the ignis sport unfortunately otherwise i would of got some.

you only get shortened shocks with coilovers like

pain in the arse, havent come across one on this soo far, least now i know the importance of a service history, my escort estate was held together by seized bolts through out :P



least something good may come of it, new shocks

i still gotta get a new n/s/f shock for mine, its started to leak and will fail its mot in feb, monroe shock oem standard is £60 call it, but a Gmax one is £37 or so
full kit including springs is £245 :D


just prefer to find a full kit thats not very old and pay like £150 or so :D better value for money

dw you will get it out :D

the ignis has got a full history like that dont make any difference, the bolts probs never been out before lol.

anyway ive order some boge gas shocks for it now they are coming monday, 46 quid each thou!! like you said though at least they will be new then and the are uprated gas one not the standard oil ones. so should be better..

gona cut the bolt out monday and fit the rear shocks and springs...

you already got apex springs havent you?, i would just save and buy some tidy shortened dampers if i was you.

gas shocks as theyre called are only partially filled with gas, theyre still mostly oil

well finally the rear end is now lowered and the new shocks fitted!

managed to cut the bolt out, but while my mate was hammering away at it the bolt head came flying off and hit me in the cheek, it bloody hurt cut the inside and outside of my mouth lol i was lucky it didnt hit me in the eye like..

anyway the springs and new shocks are on, the car sits lovely now and the ride is much better, a lot less crashy, which is weird considering it now lowered lol. only downside to the shocks is because they are for a normal ignis and not a sport, the shocks are slightly longer, so when you jack the car up the shocks extend more so the axle drops more so the springs drop out of the cups, but its not gona cause muh hassle ill just have to jack it up on the axle instead of the sills now like..

also it flew the mot today, so happy days!! :halo:

the car is stinking dirty at the moment thou, ive never let it get so dirty before loll bloody weathers crap so will give it a good clean and take some pics!

Sounds like a nightmare! Though MOT pass is good news as is the end result of the suspension. You not worried about the springs dropping out the cups over big bumps and shit?

hang on, dont wanna be a tit, but how did it pass the mot if when jacked it drops its springs, my mk4 got an advisory because the rear brake lines were straining when jacked up

When you jack mine the springs come completley out the cups. Mine passed.

my old college lecture used to go mental when i jacked mine up coz the front springs can wiggle a bit, saying it will fail lol, didnt though
