My first cossie was off the clock @ around 175/180 when gps showed me 163

Im used to them being wank, but I'm pretty sure its the white dials, as they look like the ones you print out yourself.. shouldnt be a problem once I have finished my own, will make things more accurate

struggling with the dials, although i am tired now lol

it jumps a fair bit, unless i read the gps wrong..

40 - 46ish
50 - 61ish

i have been moving the dials around on photoshop, quite well up to that point.. will have to do some checks tomorrow, cause surely it cant jump from being 5mph to 10mph out lol

Im never sure what to belive, speedo or gps as when my dad got his car new 3 years ago speedo still didnt match the gps. Would be doing 70 and satnsv would read 66 or something. Obviously no where near as far out as what ur saying!

mine is about 5mph out at 70, and i have plasma dials stuck over the normals, my rev counter is out by about 300revs and atm i got no temp gauge as its catching on the dial face :@

You say you have White dials on the car already? Have you tried taking them off to see how much difference it's out on the original speedo?

I'd just run the standard setup, seems alot of hassle just to have white dials

They are probably stuck on, and I cant be arsed to go find some standard ones.
I'll take them out and have a look..

One other option would be MK5 digi dials... as they run off the VSS and are more accurate to start with.
Would just need to get hold of a ZS fuel sender to fit in my tank.

Okay, so as I'm looking after my brother for a few hours (aka, let him run riot with the kids on the estate while I do naff all) I decided to take them to bits.

Yes the dials were on wrong, as you can see on the photos.. just look at the black bar next to the original 10mph bar...

So I'll be going back to stock inaccuracy, which is around 5mph at motorway speed I think, I can live with that.

Just snapped my speedo needle tho, so need to bodge that.. still might go down mk5 dials route tho.

Actually just thinking about it, it'll be worse now

Just realised you can set the needles up better, so I'm gonna play around with that later to see if i can get it better.

Also found this little gem

Might be easier Paul to just swap the dials over all together for a new unit. I fitted mk4 red needles to it ages ago so it might be this that makes it read incorrect. It was me that also fitted the crap White dials, they were fine when I first did them but think they lifted after like a year or something. Lockwood ones are nice but they seem to discolour after a while and there not cheap.

My local scrappers dont have mk3's in anymore so I'll have to tinker with these for now.
I just snapped the needle, but now i know its off a mk4 i can replace it if i do get them working correctly

If i come across a mk5 with the digi dials and fuel sender unit I'll most likely fit them, as they are better (and already white)

plasma dials FTW

as a referece, my gps speedo on my phone seems to be pretty accurate compaired to my wheel speed sensor that reads from lugs on the back of the hub.

its hard to measure speed without a larger perspective really aint it

Plasma dials won't help, I need to get the needle back into its proper position to show a near enough proper speed.


Still think i'd rather go down the MK5 dials route, as they would suit the car better lol
