Iv been seriously thinking about buying one, reason is I want something quicker that handles well but bigger than a fiesta, saxo etc.
I was after a focus st170 as they are very cheap atm and imo a good car but as cheap as they now are I dont want to spend a few grand in a car because im saving for a deposit for a house so then my attention turned to a 306 gti 6 which are around £1000 so the corsa we have will pay for most of that and from what iv read have strong engines that are good for 200,000.

Insurance quotes iv been getting for them seem reasonable for me and the missis especially considering the si's last quote.

Anyway whats your opinions? I know its not a ford but if I go for a ford now it wont be quicker than what I have going off cost and besides im still keeping the si to one side.

iv been reading plenty of reviews and watching many videos and havent heard a bad word about them.

There so good I've had 2. One just was just not enough Fi keeps looking at them too as she loved driving them more than my Integra.

i dont think there that bad, probably just your average 2.0.

They do pack a punch according to parkers 167bhp and 192Nm torque.
plus they handle like a dream.

Iv been trying to read up on the must do mods like that, apparently its a highly tuned engine anyway so you need to think about cams and turbo/supercharger route.

Around 30mpg usually.

Exhuasts and air filters do nothing apart from noise unless you remap then, so its that plus cams and a remap really! The people that do supercharging are rip off merchants so dont bother looking into that one.

Make sure you get one with standard suspension too, they handle much better because not many in the gti-6 world know what they are doing so decent advice is sparse in tems of setting up geometry and suspensionfor aftermarket stuff and you will end up spending hundreds for nothing other than looks.

What are they like for space inside, I know there not going to be massive as there only a 3 door hatch .

The rallye's are cool, theres a white one near me thats even more stripped out with cage and net for helmets lol

Just been searching the net and the mojority of the are over 100k miles, should I be keeping below this or is this not to worry to much about?

Sold mine on... 145k? Bought it around 136k I think. Was so much better than the previous 80k example I had.

Only weak point is the cambelt - needs to be changed every 25k really. There's a few nearing the 200k mark now, and one or two over the 200k mark. As long as it's had good oil changes with good oil, nothing to worry about dude.

Cool, im thinking of paying around £1200 for one at most so im hoping thats enough for a decent one.

On a serious note. Go for it. late 80's-1990's peugeots are cool. I wanted a 106 gti but couldnt find a good un. I also looked at these but all seemed shagged. take your time!

Yeah im in no rush, Im trying to wait until november so ill be 25 so hopefully insurance will be a tad cheaper.
I have seen a nice phase 3 on ebay but it has a cracked rear bumper and drivers seat is shagged (which seems common) a new bumper in primer is with it but im not sure id want to pay £1100 starting bid for it if it needs abit of work.

Just look at your front bumper on the si.. and realise you'd never get anything done about it

Hold out for a better one.
