swear i read in someones fuel thread all pumps practicly get the same fuel, dunno cant remember

i feel the same way as chris tbh, ive seen a slight difference with 99 mind you, but thats obvious why, and that was tesco momentum

We'll always feel the same, as to be frank, our cars are totally different in engine design and requirements. You'll never really benefit from 99ron fuels, and my engine will simply blow up if I use anything less.

Dervs are more simple but with how economic petrol cars are becoming, and how much more economic turbochargers can make a petrol engine, the place for a Diesel in the car world should soon be dying off to trucks, vans, lorries, bigger 4x4's etc and they should stay there.

Chris, did your mappers warn you not to use lesser fuels now?

They said dont run anything below 99. Sometimes forced to put 97 in when going to shows etc. but I don't think my engine would die, its just best off with 99

surely if they say dont use anything below 99 then you should only use 99+?

could it cause damage to the engine ?

Ran it on 95 before the map. And they said it should have been on 99. Might just be for best performance who knows... but he did seem a little shocked when i said it was on 95. Feel.free to move this to my thread ry, sorry!!

it will cause detonation as the fuel wouldn't burn in the right pattern, and it makes the engine run very hot if it goes on for a long enough period it will literally melt the piston crown

amen to that ry!

the new Eco boost engine gets about 49 mpg i think, for a 1.6 petrol turbo!

Mine will only have 99 for obvious reasons...

However - remember when there was all that hoohaa with people's lambda sensors going skitz - which garages were they from?? Supermarket garages... because they fill it with shit! By me, Shell is the same price as supermarket fuels, so why, oh why, oh why, would anybody CHOOSE to go to supermarket garages? Even in my old Escort you could feel the difference. Not in terms of power or anything like that, but just in how the car responded, felt smoother, ran better.

Go to Asda or Tesco or wherever if you really want. But just check out Shell and do an actual comparison of price. If it's around the same price, why use supermarkets?

Chris you have nothing to worry about then - If they mapped it when you had 95ron IN the tank, then it should be mapped safely to that as they would have maximised the timings to that fuel, checking for knock, making sure AFR was correct, etc. You won't get the benifit from 99ron fuel, but you probably only missed out on 10bhp or so by not having it on 99ron. Even if they used a basemap to map your car with from a 99 ron session, they should have noticed things were out and adjusted them accordingly.

I remember that though Des! Around here people have also had water contamination in the fuel from the lesser garages (Even the local Texaco had an issue).

The new EcoBoost name sounds a bit gash, but infact it's clearly stating the way forward. You can have BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSST and Economy - what's not to love?

there was a test done on the leading "super" fuel and it showed that even though the same octane rating, the tescos 99 stuff was not as resistant to det as the shell vpower, or for that matter, it wasnt much if any better than bp ultimate.

People see high numbers and think its the best!

I'll be running the new si on shell, if i can find one, they got rid of the one 1/2 mile away from my new flat and turned it into a Jet garage (woop) although better than asda/tesco.

Not running super either, screw that.

6 miles is kinda alot for 10 quid, i only get 38 more miles to that tenner after i get home!

id rather just put some redex in now and then to counter it "clogging my injectors"
