Couldn't really take pictures during an oil change, but while I did that I checked out a tiny brake fluid leak on the passenger front wheel which turned out to be the Hose needed a half turn tighten, signs of tiny amounts of fluid making streaks on the alloy. And then I noticed a constant scrap along the inner side of the alloy, right where the caliper is. The bottom Caliper Slide Bolt had GONE! Not broken off, or not in properly, just plain vanished! Quick trip to the local scrappy (I've driven to skeggy and back with this brake noise!) and a free bolt sorted. Also noticed the 20+ blacktop 2.0L's in there, about 100-120 for them with all the ancilliaries. Tempting, very tempting!

Done a bit more work but keep forgetting to update.

Had some extreme blowing on the exhaust so I hunted around for some paste or something to block it up. Found some for £4 and then dropped the exhaust down and covered the joins like crazy after I seperated them and gave them a good clean. Cat to midpipe looks like it could do with a bit more to make sure of it but at least I don't get dizzy after 5 minutes of driving.

Engine has always been crap, but while I was doing the exhaust I discovered the wires to the lambda probe had been rubbing against the alternator and two had become completely destroyed. Went to the local scrapyard and found a mondeo with a shorter type lambda, spliced the wires off that to the current plug for the lambda and the engine now runs smoooooth. Gave it a test run and it's bedded in nicely. No more crap idle, no more jerky gear changes, potentially no more stuffing money directly into the filler cap. Need to find out what can help clear the exhaust of soot as that's so black it's unreal.

Located a heated front windscreen and loom. Going to hopefully collect it on Sunday. If i'm lucky and get this, I'll have taken this car from no electrics when I bought it (that's no ciggy lighter, no electric windows, no central locking even no radio) to a full electric pack. Next aim for this is the electric heated mirrors :)

The MOT is coming up at the end of october. For this I definitely need to do:

All four tyres. Sizes of the ones I have are 195/60/R15 which is perfect for an accurate speedo but evil for scrubbage over bumps and full lock. Rears are worn to hell anyway, thankfully still legal enough to reach the MOT. Ideal size would be 195/50/R15 or even 195/45/R15.

Underbody rust seems ok, need to give it a good clean off and then quickly prime and underseal to protect. Got a full drivers side sill which does need replacing but not critically.

Check on the emissions. I know the tester fudged it on the last MOT (apparently my car runs literally on air) and with the knowledge the HEGO was buggered (it wasn't working correctly even before the wire damage) I suspect the readings should be in line with the manufacturers settings. And the obligatory 60mph in second gear of course.

In the mix of all that gotta get some exhaust hangars for the cat section, as I think these have faded and now allow the cat to clatter against the suspension cross-member on engine movement. Find out why the front brakes click-click-click at high speed (like a stone caught in the disc catching the caliper) and find out how to stop the intermittent god-awful HOWL from said brakes.

At least I know the brakes work on my invisible fiesta though. At least once a week I get someone pull out in front of me.

Heading south on this road at , at the 50mph limit when some idiot pops out without looking properly forcing me to literally pull myself out of my seat I stood on the brakes that hard. Got about a foot away from his rear bumper. Wouldn't have made it if I had the old fezzy brakes.

Then the other night, I come off the roundabout to the east and back off as these lights are red. Drop down to 20 and then ease it up when the lights change. I see a car in the right hand turn lane from the opposite direction and see him slow down. I go through the lights and then have to stand on my brakes real hard as he turns in front of me, once again, about a foot away. Grrrr.

I'll get some pics of what work I've done in the next few days. Especially of the rarely tidy interior!

Went to the scrappy earlier to check on a part that I need is still there. It was, though when I walked out two RST owners walked in, no tools on them but kinda crossing my fingers they don't have the part I want :(

Well, got up at 7.30 this morning and fetched my brother to go to the scrapyard. We were the first ones there! It was drizzling rain all morning. We got the Heated Front Windscreen out without a problem. Had to cut the wires as they were very stubborn :( But at least I got everything on the wires apart from the part linking both sides under the radio. Need to get a metre or so of wire to link these back up, no biggie. Went to my mums house as I was also reinstalling his computer while this went on. Unfortunately got a crack in the old one (wanted to keep it just in case) but kept the rubber. Got the new one in fine, turns out wool and a crotchet needle are very handy for doing this! Just need to give it a really really good clean as it's got cleaning streaks all over it that glint in the sun.

The 'new' windscreen:

Image

A few flies in the face this way, is it illegal to drive a car like this?

Image

Forgot to take a finished pic at my mums house...

Image

There's not a single chip or scratch on this screen. It's weird driving along and being able to 1: see something and 2: have those wires in front of your face. Guess I'll get used to both over time!

Ok, gonna write a list of what I've done to the car since I bought it. Bear in mind I have a useless budget!

Parts removed from the old car and fitted to the new one:

1. Central Locking, PATS, lock barrels
2. Electric Windows
3. Steering wheel and airbag (better condition than the old items)
4. Door side pods (electric window switches)
5. The angled door handles front and back (the Ghia and sports models type)
6. Leather gear gaiter
7. Boot popper switch, wiring and motor
8. Dash clocks (the new one didn't have a rev counter)
9. No damn radio in the new one, the original tape deck model placed in (it looks right)
10. Parcel shelf that didn't have 6x9 holes...
11. MK3.5 door mirrors in place of M3 ones
12. Rear light clusters to replace very poor condition lexus light units
13. Gear knob
14. Forgot to mention the front speakers as after-market items had been in the car at some point

Upgrades:

1. Heated front windscreen and 95% of the loom (5% was cut away in removing from the donor car, loom spliced in)
2. Front disc brakes for Mondeo ST24 items
3. Mondeo MK1 Servo and Master cylinder

Replacements/Repairs:

1. Front wishbones
2. Front and rear shocks
3. Front and rear springs
4. Track rod ends
5. Near-side driveshaft and spindle carrier/hub assembly
6. New cat and downpipe
7. New exhaust mid-section
8. New MAF
9. Air filter box and air-filter (that cone filter was useless compared to the standard items)
10. New brake pipes all around
11. Near-side headlight unit
12. Spark plugs
13. Rear brake shoes and springs
14. Front and rear anti-rollbar bushes
15. Rear ARB brackets (which need replacing again, grrr)

Future items:

1. Braided brake hoses front and back
2. Poly-bushes all round (though if I can get rose-joints for the wishbones, I will)
3. AVO Coilover kit, heard very good things about these for ride comfort
4. Full strip down and rebuild with panel repairs and rust proofing
5. New front wings
6. XR2i bumpers, skirts and arches put on
7. Investigate a rear electric windows mod
8. Electric heated mirrors
9. New drivers door
10. Rear courtesy lights on rear doors open (and disable the front one lighting up on rear doors opening)
11. Replace the ear splitting screech on door open lights on buzzer for something that goes bong bong bong...
12. Figure out the mod on the radio to directly wire in a line input instead of reading the tape when tape inserted
13. Some kind of rear disc modification
14. Paint it black
15. Replace 195/60/R15 tyres with 195/45 or 50/R15's
16. Replace entire exhaust system
17. Black top it (if I had enough cash to throw at it I'd 2.3 turbo it)
18. Washer bottle level sensor
19. Headlight washers for the fun of it?
20. MK5 fiesta sunroof for getting rid of those black bits

There's plenty I want to do, hopefully I can get cracking on with most of them soon and I'll probably find more to do. Didn't realise I had done that much to the car already.

Its amazing the pile of things you build up and do and don't realise eh. You think your getting nowhere and suddenly loads of stuff is done. But then your list gets bigger :P

Good plans though, should be good when finished!

good work, plans sound good.

driving without a front window is a good excuse to use mime artist skills in front of police

Install a heated front windscreen, probably a MK4 or MK5 windscreen from a scrappy and get someone to bond it in for me (fits fine but needs creativity on seals and rubbers).

if the car is a mk 3 the metal lip for the rubber is smaller on a a mk3 and also you will need a trim too Being a windsreen fitter for a few years( 10 years and still do them now again Started fitting them in 1993 ) this was the job i was going to do and do a mod the problem you will have is making shure you bond the screen in and it don't leak or fall out when i order both screens and a trim we did a test run and found i would get over spill in side the car and the bonding would have to be small and long ..so we dicided just fit mk3 screen ...

tell you a mod ive been dieing to try, is a newer windscreen washer jet, as we know the mk3 item is shite, so is the mk4/5 too tbh

they just squirt water over the screen which is still in a liquid and is such a messy job, my screen gets stinking coz of it around the wiper zone

my mothers last car was a chrysler sebring and that had a mist spray jet, which was fucking brilliant, nice wide arced spray that washes away lovely with a wiper, so im going to try and find a suitable fit one and fit a pair, the rear washer isnt really an option as the angle isnt right, so a dribble is best for the back

ohh yeah full members.. Errr

You can get them from Pumabodge

http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/product-Genu ... s_1044.jsp

Or go to your local ford, there only about £4 if they have them in stock though thats the thing. Can get them heated if you wire them up

Woohoo! Sorted the scrubbing issue:

Image

Image

Cost £90, with 195/50/R15 tyres on, in decent nick too. One has a 205/50/R15 but I'll get that changed tomorrow.

Also being sorted tomorrow, an entire exhaust system being fitted. That hurts the pocket.

50s should be ok as I'm not lowered, issue with my current ones is they're all to big on the profile and two are bald, so a good deal for four fresh(ish) tyres.
