Doesn't settle anything, firstly I have never claim a Saxo is safer than a Mk5 fiesta.

I do question what a Mk5 with an already weakened front end would look like in a head on collision, I do just prey Chris doesn't prove me right.

I just went on the internet and type "powdercoaters in bournemouth" and emailed around about 6-7 I only got like 3 replies and the cheapest was £30 a wheel :)

Spraying is the one that costs a bit more I think? With the refurbishment process, this is shot blasted so will get rid of the imperfections but couldn't get rid of major ones, only slight kerbing.

99% of the time I drive. (which is very rare these days as I live next door to work..) It's on my own.

I can't actually remember the last time I had a passenger, must of been ford fair.

just have them weld a 3mm thick flat bar about 3/4s of a meter long over the affected area (after straightening it out ofcourse if not already done so)

I will say cars are designed to push the force of the crash around you, the cross member is a big part of that so right now the force will be straight at you.

If you couldn't afford to sort it I would cut you some slack, but you have spent hundreds making it faster and in turn even more dangerous to you and passengers.

As Jony points out it could be fixed quite easily.

I have a friend who a panel beater i could ask him maybe a new cross member or one cut of another car i ask him if you want i guess most scrap yards would be able to cut one off a car for you ...let me no

I left it off as I wanted the car done for Ford Fair, I just about managed it and now I can fix it like I said I would :)

seriously just get some flat bar metal and have it welded in place and paint a coat over it, or even use nut and bolts for now even that would do the job untill you can find someone with a welder

worst part of that is removing the bumper, and even thats easy compared to a mk3 which has 4 nuts instead of 2 :(


fitting a new cross member is straight forward on the mk4/5 too as i think theyre just spot welded several times each end

Removing the bumper? Its two nuts :lol: and two screw. thats not a hard job. It's been like it for a year it can wait three weeks.

I will get it either bend back and reinforced or cut out and welded, depending on cost and efficiency. I'll see if I can strike a deal for the rust as well.

If I went around asking for cash jobs to make it cheaper, they don't give an invoice do they? Does that mean i'll have no comeback if the work quality is shit? if so i'd rather pay the VAT..

maybe easyer to get the new cross member then play with old one as you may have to pull it out which is no easy job About 25 pounds on ebay

pretty sure its 2 nuts next to each other in a diagonal pattern, each side of the bumper, so 4 nuts in total and then the little screws in the arches
