Why does everyone want 4WD? It's a shame it's not RWD or a system than can transfer power to the front wheels when it needs it, or say after 30mph it becomes 100% RWD from 4WD I say.

But saying that most new FWD are setup so well for the road, why do you need 4WD or RWD?

True it is good fun! RWD is "Right Wheel Drive" as they say, but as I say it does an OUTSTANDING job in FWD mode and it is generally safer to control. Remember being 4WD would bump the production costs up, and even the weight and transmission losses would play a part in it all when it comes to specs. I'm not saying 4WD is crap at all, as it's not (who am I to disprove a developed technology is naff?) but overall they have done a sterling job on producing a car to a budget, and that's the key thing to remember. I doubt as many Ford nuts would have these cars on the various forums we're all on if they were more capable with a different drive system as they would be more in the Nissan GTR price tag area to compensate...

Saying that, again RWD mode although would aid in the handling department would also aid in higher insurance price tags, groups and no doubt higher crash rates as let's be honest these new models do push out a hell of a lot of power as standard for saying it's a production car from Ford and its price tag and they have got to limit what it is capable of so that a certain age band can afford to buy and insure these types of cars.

All I'm saying is that I'm sure everyone would be even more gutted if they released the new 400bhp RWD RS around the £60k mark. Not many people under the age of 35 would realistically be able to afford one. I've seen a lot of mid to late twenty some things driving around in the new FRS'...

Being the Ford loving loser I am, I want one already. I like my French bean can but it ain't a Ford. Plan is to wait till one becomes two years old and depreciates enough but still have manufacturers warrenty.

So its going to be 400bhp? Ok so techically thats nothing new at all. If it was 500bhp id be impressed.

Reason I say its nothing new is because last year or whenever it was, top gear tested the focus rs, the cossie scooby and that blue volvo which had 400bhp, and that volvo shares exactly the same engine as the focus (because the focus uses a volvo engine... as well as lots of other volvo parts), so all they have done has gone to volvo and buy the 400bhp tuned engines off them rather than use their own 350bhp ones.

So, ford are just cutting corners as per. They should get a cossie tuned rs, that would be more like the traditional powerful ford
