Is my alternator foooked?

Battery light started flickering yesterday below 1500rpm, battery light was off above this.
Today the battery light on solid up to 2k, flickers up to 3k, off after 3k..

I did have a problem previously with the wire to the starter, but that is still in tact so it can't be that again.
Belt is tight and isnt slipping, so thats not the issue either.
Wiring to the battery is intact, and the wiring to the back of the alt seems in tact (althought not had a good look at the terminals yet)

I have a feeling the alternator is fooked, but why would it charge above a certain rpm?

How old is the battery Paul?

Make sure the belt isn't on TOO tight either - I had a couple of problems with mine recently which were caused by the belt being too slack, and then too tight

Quite old I think. Got one spare somewhere I think.
Belt isn't too tight.. just checked wiring, all ok.
Not looking good, gotta get home from work in the dark lol

Does sound like the alternator. Could be the diodes on it or the brushes. Possibly the regulator.

But if you can get a multimeter on it, check the battery without engine running (should be around 12.5v) then with the engine running (should be around 14.5v). If it's jumping up and down when the car is running then it's going to be the alternator

Will try rob one off the sparks on site.

Yep Alternator is fooked.
Just ordered one off ebay, £55 quid posted. Got quoted £80+ locally, so would rather wait 2 days.
Gonna attempt the drive home tonight (lights on I may add...) and keep above 3000rpm as much as possible, keep in 4th at 50-60mph will be fine... if it starts in the morning I'll drive it to work again, and wednesday

Hopefully have the alternator delivered in time for me to fit it Thursday morning before work!
