I've been a fan of this car ever since i can remeber when my mum and dad used to have one until it was nicked from outside our house, anyway im 16 at the moment and looking to buy a 1.6 Si as my first car, any ideas on how to pick one up cheap would be appreciated as i am thinking of buying it soon and getting it into realli good nick for september when i am 17.

Your best bet is to check your local ad mags, autotrader.co.uk should help you a little as well, but 3dr's are a little bit rare at the moment, due to it being january and not many people selling at the mo. But you will get a good idea of the prices you'll be looking at when you dive in and buy.

ebay and exchange and mart may have some for sale as well.

my tip: buy the best you can, a standard one with low amount of rust is better in the long run than a modded one with dirty arches and knackered sills.

ive had a 1.4 and a 1.6, the difference is unbelievable, 15bhp more, different gear ratios (better in my opinion) better suspension and superior seats. the 1.4 was cheaper on insurance mind.

if you do see a nice 1.4, go for it, you can always sell and change when you had enough.

Thanks for all the info everyone, i think im definately going to go for the 1.6, and dont worry im not going to put some ridiculous bodykit on it, i love the standard si aswell just already subltey modified as standard.

All i want to do is a nice set of wheels, lower it, new exhaust and new air filter and sound system. Then after a few years when my insurance premiums go down, stick a 2ltr in it

ive just bought a 1.6 si for my first car, ive got pass plus and 1 years driving experience, but no years no claims. i found for me that bell (part of admrial) was the cheapist cos they specialise in people with NCB. my quote was only £1370, which is the cheapist by far ive had.
