A lot of cars are made to run on super like the new clio sport I think runs on super and a lot of Jap cars, doesn't need to be high performance to run on super

I would say more the lessor power the less likely they are to bother (which does generally go hand in hand with engine size)

I would say its usually 200bhp+ cars which may benefit.

yea my point exactly

lary cams, big turbo and brillaint fuel systems mainly demand the higher octain stuff, infact they cant run without them in most cases

My mum has one of these, a nice car mate, a little boxy but they are fun and look slightly like glanzas from the front, well my mums does cos she always has her fogs on. :doh:

As for the fuel, you don't need anything more than 95 octane in these, the reason starlets and other jap cars are meant to run on Vpower is that they are JDM imports and over in Japan the ECU is programmed to run on the 100 octane fuel they have, the nearest we have over here is VPower at 99 octane, so that is what should be used. With this being a UKDM car though and not an import its designed to run on standard 95 octane fuel. :)

By all means all cars will benefit to a point as it is better quality fuel but in general cars need to be mapped to run higher octane fuel to which most UK spec models aren't.

I think you should swap bumpers with his mum that way she can't have her fogs on all the time when its not foggy dammit!

I still refuse to believe any car under about 200bhp will run any better on higher octane fuel if not mapped for it.

It doesn't gain HP, maybe MPG but your paying for the extra !

just looked on the fuel flap now and theres a little sticker which says...

'please use a gasoline with an octane rating of 98 or higher' on it.

Fair enough, but in that case all quoted power figures will be based on 98ron fuel, so there will be nothing to gain, just something to lose using 95ron.

well it seems to be using a lot more of the 95 octane than it normally does on the higher octane stuff.

so i do think its better using higher octane.

its a balance off -

say its 5p more a litre

40 litre tank = £2 more for super

But if you do 3-4mpg more on super thats 40 miles a tank nearly which is more then £2 so in theory you are saving
