right ive had the si back on the tarmac for 10 days so far but havent had time to post up about it really as ive had a few problems with it, one the battery keeps on going flat which could be the alarm so going to get the company who fitted it 3 years ago to have a look hopefully this week, also ive had lots of trouble trying to get it tracked up since converting it to manual steering, as the track rod ends either appear to not big enough or the steering arms are too long and it has a slight air leak from somewhere not sure where atm and has a slight idle issue on tick over but goes like stink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

You not cutting the rack arms shorter?? - saves pissing about
Air leak + idle issue will prob be the same problem.. check the pipe off the side of the inlet that goes under the coil pack.. or failing that a gasket

Good plan :)

Pipe comes off the side of the inlet sandwich plate, goes under the coilpack, and to the breather on the front of the block - which is hiding behind the exhaust manifold.

It either pops off the sandwich plate... because its just a push on.. or it perishes and leaks.
I had that problem before... if it isnt that I would say one of the gaskets on the inlet side

Phil, I had the exact same problem as you the other day, got my new track rod ends from CES uk and turned out the ones they had listed for the car were wrong as they wouldnt screw onto the rack far enough to stop the wheels towing in.

Went back to them and we found out that there was a different track rod end on their system listed for 1994/1995 1.1 and 1.3 engined mk3.5 fiestas with manual steering. Got these instead and they fit fine, have more thread in them so they can be screwed on further

The ones that fit are the same as listed for the mk1 KA

the ones that are wrong are also listed for the mk5/6 escort

Hope that helps :)

still couldnt be tracked up :( one side tracked up fine the other still needed another 0.48 degree, so they set the steering slightly left hand down and it tracked up but the steering is set at 10 0'clock has same turns lock to lock :?

The wheel needs taking off and putting back on straight buddy, or remove the universal joint the engine bay side of the bulkhead, straighten the wheel then re-fit the universal joint

This has the most adjustment in it

Sounds like when you fitted the rack it wasnt completely centralised but the wheel was

got an update on both fiestas today

bought a new idle speed control valve from fords with new bolts and gasket for the si

Image

fitted

Image

Image

idles lovely now :)

then after not driving it for 2 days come home to find a patch underneath :(

Image

Image

its anti freeze, no entirely sure where it coming from the sump is dry and has no stains but there was some on the alternator, so for now i have just done up the clamps a bit tighter

also the rear brakes needed some adjustment and on inspection the cylinders were leaking so my mates going to fit them and adjust the shoes and flush the fluid on thursday :)

and the runabout

i noticed some rust coming up behind the nearside rear arch and found this

Image :(

which poked straight though the outer and inner arch :banghead:

unfortunatly it being the runabout means in has to be bodged :chill:

so bought 2tubes of abro steel and filled the hole/holes up

now i never done spraying by myself before so did my best masking it up cheaply, and i probably should have removed the petrol cap  any extra advice would be much appricated ;)

then after rubbing down and 1st layer of primer the 2nd coat in grey as i ran out of white

Image

Image

it hasnt come up to bad got a few scratches that need rubbing down before diamond white paint is to be applied :) all the abro steel will be covered with the arch so wasnt to bothered with it showing :look:

also put on some new caps for the rear wheel bearings on the runabout as the old ones were dented and grease was seeping through

Image
also a few pics of my si back at home :)
