I'm home. After the meet had finished at what, 5 oclock?

So I started driving home and I heard a tapping, couldn't decide what it was then decided to pull over ASAP and it was my engine.
No oil, had burnt/drank it all. Filled it with more and it was still knocking :(

RAC took me home, bunch of wankers still. Wish i'd paid extra for AA I really do. I refused to start the car due to the fact the last car I had put a hole in the block, they forced and forced and I just stoof there and refused, had a call from there manager and everything.
Eventually the patrol guy just took me anyway, dropped me half way and someone else took over. I talked to him about it and he said they were all bang out of order, shouldn't have phoned me, the patrolman should have just taken me as its up to him once he's there and he could see I was distressed!
So he made me slightly happier. but as a company. C**TS

And now i've gotta get danny down to help me strip the engine. see what the problem is.
Only took 2-3 litres of oil to get it to max, So what do people think? top end of bottom end?

u added 2/3 litres to get it to full ?? if so that shows it was low... my mate had a z-se engine and low oil caused the bottom end to go but that never smoked so tis a dodgy one. as the top end has come apart recently thats worth checking first. loose bolt  but i guess you wont know until it comes apart. keep us posted

bottom end, zetec-s are notorious for it, as soon as they start knocking/tapping and use oil its a goner.

It's either a coincidence or the cams have promoted it, but likelihood is the piston rings were shot, from either too little or too much oil. Probably your bearings are gone, maybe your crank, you'll have to strip it down.

After doing loads of research I eventually didn't bother with mine, I didn't have the tools, time, space or skills needed to rebuild properly so just stuck another engine in.

Oh and if it is the worst case scenario then just chin up and look to the possibilities! for instance, if I were you I'd buy this 1.7 puma for £400

take engine out, stick it in yours. cheapest option. Turn your bad luck into an unplanned modification. That's what I did with mine :) least spare engines for you do not cost £2k

That is a shame that the cams you have will not fit the 1.7 :(

how much do 1.6 zs engines go for? swapping an engine over is surprisingly easy if you have an engine crane, you are methodical and you're not on a strict deadline.

No strict deadline really, Download? FITP? as long as its on the road soonish.

Anywhere between £100-400 dependant really, shouldn't be hard to get hold of one if worst comes to worst. Would be an idea to check it over and replace most bits just to make sure though  Either way it's gonna be costly if it goes that far, and if i'm honest for the next four week i've got nothing. I'm gonna have to have a word with a friend if it is bad news.

Surely this counts for something?

Puma.
0-60 9.2 seconds.
Top speed 126mph
Bhp 123bhp.

Zetec-s
0-60 9.9 seconds
Top speed 113mph
Bhp 101

These figures are from parkers btw, i know they can vary from car to car.
It seems to me jony if you've got a vendetta against a engine you just automatically think its shit, like you hate french cars (anything bar ford) but majority of them will hand your ass to you in a race.

Id cam a zetec-s but if the engine has blown i would flog the cams and go for a puma engine, and cam that and maybe itb like Kimmys on ukfn.

Of course buying that Puma, you could use the puma gearbox over the zetec-s gearbox is the ratio's are more performance based?

Would be interested to hear from reliable sources about why VVT technology restricts the engine compared to the not VVT 1.6 engine for a car that will only be mildy modified.

That Puma is a steal though. you could break a lot of the car and make your money back, along with flogging the dead engine and your cams. :)

I may be wrong but form when I was looking at the focus there was 2 1.6 engines

98bhp
115bhp

And I am pretty sure the 115bhp is VCT.

If so I looked into both engines and found the 115bhp engine had less low down torque and generally would need to be worked harder to see the gain. In short I wasn't bothered by which I got after looking into the headline figures.

I tested my 0-60 and it was 9.1 second, thats before a remap. VCT isn't everything as i've been in a puma'd ZS and its not really noticable tbh. I don't want a puma engine, its more hassle than its worth changing more than just the engine. selling bits, breaking bits etc. plus I don't have the money or sources to go and buy that and break it.
the engine could still be salvagable, until I strip it down I don't know, if its that bad i'll buy a second hand one, or get a loan and buy a brand new one so I know nothing will fail :ol:
