Has anyone seen this article before?

http://www.topgearstockport.com/downloa ... eature.pdf

What it's basically saying is, that if you want a better system than standard, but aren't prepared to pay for a quality item, yet get gains, go for a longlife exhaust (on your turbo car anyway)

at 2500rpm is has 35lb/ft less torque than their bodged together aftermarket exhaust. however picks up to close to aftermarket exhaust shortly afterwards.

Not the best selling point. Contacted them about an exhaust for my car, but from what I read, it seems they are just another Powerflow with slightly better methods, but by no means ideal for the real enthusiast wanted the best setup they can get.

Has anyone got a Longlife system, what are your thoughts on them?

Hmm, that looks quite interesting actually. Depending on the price of these Longlife systems, I don't think it would make a noticeable difference. So if it's the same price as an aftermarket, I might consider it. :)

I think the lower torque at the lower revs may well be caused by those "wrinkles" when the exhaust gasses aren't flowing as much as the higher revs.

Where are these places Ry?? :)

the place I was speaking to was one near you in the city centre

http://www.roarpower.co.uk/

For me, on a 2.5" system, I was looking at paying around £320. For a 3" system, it would be £40 more.

I thought the same thing about the wrinkles. Would love to hear from a few people who have used them before :)

Hi. I hope you don't mind me coming in on this thread - from my user name it will be obvious where I work. Amongst ofther things, I look after all of the franchises and deal with customer service.

I'm not sure you've really understood the point of the article here. When we did the test with Redline, what we wanted to prove was that a well built (not bodged together as has been said at the beginning of this thread) custom exhaust can give pretty much as good a performance as an off the shelf performance system which may cost you far more. Apart from right down low in the rev range I think the article proved our point. We do take, amongst other things, gas flow into account and feel that our systems are of excellent quality, using the best materials and methods available.

I'll extend an offer to Ry who mde the original post, to come down to our Head Office at Bridport and get a system made here. I'll do you a great deal to make up for the fact that it may be a bit of a drive for you, provided that you post pictures of the system and give your honest appraisal to the rest of the forum. If you want to do a before and after rolling road test and publish the results then i'm also happy with that (although I don't have a rolling road here in Bridport).

So there you have it. If we 'bodge' the system together then we'll certainly be exposed as such but i'm more than confident that you'll not only be delighted with the look and sound of the system, you'll also come back on here and say as much. You can get in touch with me at Head Office by calling me direct on 01308 422282 or emailing jason@longlife.co.uk

Kind Regards

Jason - Longlife

Jason - welcome to the site mate!

However, let's just clear one thing up - Ry wasn't saying YOUR systems were bodged together, the bodge comment was referring to the other aftermarket system used in the test, as he states yours had 35lb/ft less torque than the "bodged together" aftermarket one. Both me and Ry seem quite impressed with your systems! :)

I may well be interested in doing the same as Ry here and what you suggested. I could post onto the Pulsar forums too to advertise your products if they produce the results!

Question though, are you able to incorporate flanges at certain points to allow for decat pipes being removed and replaced with the cat? And, do you have any experience in making specific turbo elbows to replace restrictive standard ones?

Many thanks for taking the time to join up and explain what you're about! Just looked where Bridport is, that's a right journey! I bought my Pulsar from Yeovil and that's closer

i got a longlife de-cat pipe (made in cardiff) on my arosa and to be fair it been on there about a year now and never had any trouble with it.

it looks very well made and the fitment on it is very good. mind you thats probably because i didnt fit it lol

definately made the car quicker, much more power up top end of the revs and it pulls past 120mph quite easily, which it didnt standard.

although i would say £148 quid for a piece of pipe about 3-4 foot long is expensive. mind you i did have the flexi replaced as that snapped, which on its own cost about £70

also had a longlife backbox on my 1st fiesta, which looked lovely on it and sounded nice.

and ive recently put a full system on the fiesta, which looks lovely, it a 3.5" outward rolled tip.

it sounds nice too, its on my 1.4 cvh si. from the downpipe back, so no cat, and only the backbox. its got that deep cvh rumble on idle, which i personally love, and then a nice rasp as you rev it up, and pops and bangs as its coming back down.

not too loud either. rumbles a bit outside but fairly quiet inside, not like the ashley competition one i had, that was always really loud.

only thing i would say is when i fitted it, the bore on the longlife system seemed smaller than the standard exhaust, and i dunno whether that would affect performance.

but it doesnt matter to me anyway because ill be changin the exhaust when i fit the zetec engine...

one thing i would say though.

custom made exhausts arent developed and tested for cars.

e.g miltek system on a zetecs s? i think they are specially developed and tested to provide the best power gains.

another one would be a pugsport on a 106 gti

or kam racing produced thier own exhaust for a lupo gti, a 4-1 manifold with de-cat and cat back which they developed and tested on a car which produced 13bhp more than standard.

only downside is that system on a lupo gti costs around £900! a lot more than a custom made system.

have you look into spoon or mugen exhausts for your integra ry? as they are honda tuning specialists?

Custom made exhausts is the only way I can go really. Spoon have a lot of overpriced stuff and they do not offer the same quality that Mugen (the true counterpart of Honda's racing dept) do, though their work is very good none the less.

Sadly there are no decent aftermarket exhausts for Integra's with forced induction, unless you look close to four figures (Like for a HKS) as although they flow better, the inside bore is not enough (I need 2.5" to 2.75", most tend to be 2.38") and they are created for N/A Tuning as you would expect.

I am going down to Longlife's HQ in a few weeks time to get a setup created by these guys, so we will all see what the quality will be like. I didn't realise that TopGear have taken over Longlife in 2009, and they appear to have changed a few of their materials, hence why I see Jason is adamant to show that they do well made and put together systems for a good price.

I'm after improved flow rates and more pipe diameter (currently I run a 2.25" center section and 2.38" backbox) which I am hopeful that Longlife can produce :)

Well, that was interesting!

Went down to Topgear/Longlife HQ on Friday for a custom exhaust set up and the guys have done good.

I went for a 2.5" set up for the pending turbo being bolted on, with the aims to have something that will give the most performance and flow the most whilst sounding as subtle as possible and for a great price. Basically if I ended up with an exhaust that flowed too much and too quickly for a 4 cylinder n/a application to handle, and as a result felt like the car had a slightly less power then I was happy as I knew it was doing its job.

After a quick chat with Jason, and Christian who would be making the exhaust, we decided on the tailpipe to choose (I wanted something subtle - nothing to big or typical Jap style, I have a UKDM don't you know  ) and I let them have their hands on the car.

Enough chit chat. Here are some pictures for you lot! Ignore the rusty underside of the car.. it's one of those jobs I'm going to deal with in 2012!

I have way more pictures, but there are only so many I have the time to resize and upload!

The end result? It does exactly what I wanted it too, and it looks very nice! :D it burbles and pops, and strangely on the drive down there I managed 300 miles to a tank. On the way back, being a bit more hearty with the throttle and I've done 240 miles after using just over half a tank. I like this exhaust, it does strange and wonderful things to my MPG

Granted it is a bit on the loud side, but I expected that, and things will quieten down when the turbo is on, though I am getting used to the exhaust note more and more. :)

I was sceptical at first, but now I am pleasantly surprised by the company on a whole and I personally think they have done a thorough job.

Image

What more can I say. For the price, they have ticked every box. Thanks Jason & Co

Very good looking setup Mr Ry! I'm impressed :) Glad it's worked out good for you!
