hey there i was wondering if anybody can shine a light on this problem!!!
my car is somehow losing charge. even when it is just ticking over it starts to stutter and die! the revs drop down to nothing more or less then it stutters and shes gone! if i put my lights or heaters on or stereo it kills it even quicker! battery im mint, put a ner coil pack on, a new alternator and it is still doing it! i havent got any lose connections from the battery or the starter motor, or the alternartor. i have even replaced my starter motor because it was a bit iffy! if any1 can shed any light on this then please do, as im losing the will to live with this car and im getting on the verge of scrapping it! sad i know because i loved this car when it was running! its a 1995 1.6 16v si! please help!!! thanks :)

If its just tick over not steady sounds more like idle control valve or something and just stalling when you add extra electrical load to the alternator

So once it dies do you need to stick jump leads on it to get it going again?

no mate! not at all.. i cant put my finger on it myself! ive even took my radio out today and still the same! even took all fuses out apart from fuel pump funse and electric ignition fuse and its still the same! been told it could b a dodgy earth but i cant seem to find any problems with the earths! and yeah put a new alternator on, unless theres a break internally on the wire from the alternator to the solenoid. thats all i can think of now :(

also there is 3 connections on my alternator and i have only 2 wires going to it, one thick red one from the solenoid, which is connected to the same solenoid connection as the battery lead, and a thin blue wire which i am suspecting to be the battery light wire? should i have a wire coming from my battery running straight to the alternator as well? as well as the one on the solenoid?

Have you checked for bad relays? They could be placing a circuit over the battery and draining it that way.
