Jony.. That was about a page ago..

Basically used a gun to do the nuts up. (Which i've always had done with my ZS alloys, or by hand witj my breaker bar)

I will take a picture of the nuts I am using later so I can confirm as I really don't know. But i'm sure there standard factory ones as two owners and a completley standard car.. I bet the wheels only came off for a new tyre and that was it.

Hmm Strawberry scent!

Glad you're ok though!, that's the main thing :)

you chaps may be over emphasising this, many wheels have come free of peoples cars doesn't mean they will die, would likely fuck your brake disc up though :P

Seriously dude buy the ebay goodness ry linked.

As for not dying when a wheel comes off, it all depends what is happening at the item.

10mph on a quiet street you probably won't die, 70mph on a busy motorway could be a different story.

Well i'd rather my wheel didn't fall off at all, I don't tend to go for sprinted B road drives. 70mph on a quite busy motorway seemed bad enough for me.

Wheel nuts... Does this help anyone?

Look like gen ford ones to me. Anyway, next time you take it to a garage, make sure they get a torque wrench on them, refuse to drive it if they dont. Air guns arent always what they are cracked up to be, especially if the pressure in the system is naff.

The way I have always seen it when working in garages is, would I rather take the 5mins it takes to torque wheel nuts up and know the car is safe, if just gun the nuts up and end someones life and put your life and career on the line? I know what I would chose. I HATE half arsed mechanics and garages.

ANYWAY! Back onto the whole de-cat thing...

      only joking :)

well it was my friend :( its how he's always done it. I've used a breaker bar to do the wheels that are on there now.. I've done it many times before and i've never had any problems.
Confusing. Looks like I may just dump them back on then and see what happens once the rear ones fixed.
I do see it as a big coincidence that the wheel opposite the one which was flat was coming off and none of the others. I thought it could be to do with the stiff suspension and the car being lower on one corner or something and it working loose because of the strain or something.. Just a thought

thats what mine is like now lol

sounds bad for a modern zetec, sounds fine if it was a well modded CVH turbo, so a mk3 can get away with it, mk5s is a push imo

people whio know little about cars/engines wouldnt understand and thing something is wrong :P

them nut slook liek genuine ford ones to me mate, just put them back on and do them up to 100NM or more with a torque wrench, if it happens again, change them

keep a hear out for the juddering loose nuts makes

I don't care if people think its broken it'll go like stink and sound awesome :D

I have put them back on with a breaker bar. I dunno what 100NM is but my old wheels never fell off with a breaker bar so if these ones loosen i'll just tighten them again until they stop.

My rear flat tyre wasn't seated correctly as the inner alloy is corroded, so I have to sand that back smooth so that it'll sit properly and not leak.

Danny do you have a torque wrench?

Oooh and all my service parts arrived today :)
